Vox bass

I recently acquired an old vox bass. I know this part of the forum seems to be only for builders, but anyone on here do repairs?

I've done tons of different repairs to tons of different instruments, but this is a first for me. The truss rod needs replacing as it is snapped :( That'll be later though. The neck has collapsed into the body. The seam between the back and the sides is open on both sides of the body (from the pressure of the neck, I assume. When this gave away, the neck block sank, so the strings are about 1" from fingerboard. Obviously the strings aren't up to tension here. Would you guys recommend regluing the back onto the sides, perhaps with a little bit extra of a brace? Or would you recommend removing entire neck block, and making a patch that will help secure the top? The top has tons of cracks in the varnish (anywhere where a screw once entered is cracked, but its just in the varnish, none of them go through).

Since I've had the bass, my main priority has been trying to remove the smoke smell from the case (original) and the bass).

Yes, I realize the bass is a huge project, and I will pay to have someone take care of the truss rod for me, but the neck block is something I will try to do myself. If not, I might take it to a violin luthier. This bass has some serious ups to it, everything on it right now is original (tuning pegs, neck, fingerboard, every fret, etc. It has the G tuner plate, but its not wired up to anything. In fact, the wires were cut right at the switch. It has the metal plate with the 2 switches and 2 knobs on it (distortion and treble boost I believe, but they aren't wired up correctly). The other 3 knobs and pickup switch (3 way I assume) are missing. Anyone happen to know where I can get me a wiring diagram for it? As of right now, I plugged the bass into an amp and it does make sound!

So to recap, my 2 questions are- what would you do about the neck block? And, anyone have any sort of wiring diagram (or spare parts for one of these?)? Thanks!

Bill

Pics?

Several, from several angles, especially the damaged parts. The more you post, the better the advice you can get here...

BTW, I've always loved those basses, cool hollowbody kitsch for not too much scratch. It would be great to see it returned to its original status...

That first pic is from straight on, the best I could do to show where it actually collapsed downward.

Those pictures is of the back where it split from the neck block being pushed down (I assume)

Those pictures are the best I could do to show how much the neck collapsed and how high the strings are (they aren't up to tension, not anywhere near)

That is just to show how much is missing wiring wise. Its all wired up and it works, but I think its just as a tone and volume knob or something, I've never actually strung it up so I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what they do. But I do know it needs a few parts
