I played though one of these a local mom and pop music shop. I have to say I was very impressed by it's tubeyness. The od was very smooth and really had a very natural tube distortion feel to it. The OD was very input sensitive. I would love to see this offered as a head only or with the front end on a higher watt power section. I think this is some very interesting tech that needs to be explored further.
It’s a toy suitable only for guitar players who would literally buy anything.

This is the new one that's got NuTube in it, so it probably sounds great!
If the ABS is as rigid as the wood/plywood normally used, it shouldn't hinder the timbre.

My old VOX ac100, sold it, shown with the guitar speaker cabinet (original AC100).
I still have a VOX bass cabinet re-production, I had a cabinet made with 2 - 10" Edens and a 15" EV. and I had it made deeper than the guitar cab with two separate compartments (still fits in the stand). It's now paired with a VOX 125 tube head from 1979-80.

I bought a Vox VX50BA, took it home and the NuTube went microphonic - squealing as soon as any gain was applied. In addition the little 8" speaker farts out easily. Took it back, very unimpressed. I recommend anyone considering this amp just get a Rumble instead.
I'm interested in this amp - looking for something to use at small coffeehouse kinds of gigs to play my U-Bass with an acoustic guitar player. They are hard to find in person to try - the only two reviews here on TalkBass that I have found say that they suck, all the reviews on Sweetwater are positive.
I don't need the overdrive, unless it's capable of very mild overdrive - I guess that's one question - how does the NuTube affect the "clean" sound?

I have one that I use for rehearsals (all the bands I play with rehearse quietly). I wouldn't use it for a gig, not even a small one because I have better small amps, but it's fine for rehearsals. The ABS doesn't seem to detract from it, in fact I would say it would be a great little amp with a quality speaker like an Eminence.
Thank you! Can I ask what other small amps you use? I have a GK MB-112 II that I love and use for gigs, but I'm looking for something smaller and lighter. PJB Bass Cub is tempting but way more expensive.

You're comparing to the GK - I'm looking for something much smaller - the Vox is 50 watts, only 10 lbs. with an 8" speaker. (My post wasn't clear in itself)

Had try the Vox at my local shop: very nice and warm sound, the ABS doesn't affect it.
But it's just a training amp, not one for gigs because it's not loud enough.
The line out allows you to use another amp along with the VX50.

I think our powered mains speakers (Mackie) and powered monitors (Alto) are made of plastic. I'm sure it makes them lighter, but I think they sound fine (especially the Mackie Thumps)

Starting to think I may just go by the VOX dealer tomorrow morning & put in my order:
