VT Bass and Amp Sims on PC

I've decided to get the Tech 21 VT bass but was wondering if anyone uses it with VST amp sims for PC recording - or is that pointless because the VT bass is doing all the sim work anyway and all you need is a bit of compression/ EQ.

I plan to go into a Joemeek Compressor first and then into an audio USB interface

I found it works better than the pc amp emulator I run through. Plus, it's more authentic to "my sound".

Excellent - that will save a bit of processing power then. I might go for the California guitar sim as well

F*****G hell the VT bass ain't half good???? I've been struggling to get a decent bass sound for direct recording for ages and the VT has sorted it within 5 minutes

i have got clips of it through an amp sim and clips of it without if people are interested.
it's basically just different ways of altering the tone slightly.

I have tried several amp simulators on PC such as Amplitube, Guitar Rig, etc. Most of them sounded average at best IMO. Amplitube Ampeg wasn't all that bad...

My main problem is the soundcard latency. I managed to get it down to 6ms but can you still hear a delay between your plucking and the sound. Very, very annoying. Makes the whole thing unplayable. It's ok to add after recording as an Insert effect but no use for live playing.

I'd rather have a one tone wonder amplifier and record it with a mic and the line out, than having several simulations of amps with average tones.

I really regret buying a POD Pro 1.0 a few years ago... I didn't understand the whole Tone Quest back then

I've never had a problem with latency, I just make sure the PC is a powerful one and dedicate it to music applications only. That way there's less variables effecting the PC as a whole

In terms of amp sims I find the guitar ones are much better than the bass ones. I don't see any point in using them anymore with the VT Bass here - I stuck it through Line 6's POD Farm and one by one I started turning off all the FX and I noticed the sound was getting better and better - I finally removed the plugin from that track entirely and the sound was the best I'd got till that point!

Now it's purely compression, EQ, maybe a bit of chorus and a limiter - no amp sims anymore on bass

last night i recorded through my VTbass into an Avalon preamp and then into the sansamp PSA1 VST.

3 preamps! - i found that the PSA1 is great for the after-recording tweaking

Dude your music is brilliant - if you were based in London I'd chuck you some lyrics and melodies to sing over the great guitar work.

I've tried to like the Amplitube SVX, but I just don't. But I love the VT.
