Double Bass Waa waa pedal with DB?

Anybody has a clue of what pickup or mic Dan Berglund is using? I just ordered myself some nice upright (my first :D:D:D:D:D:D:D ) and I wanna get some ideas for pickups and effects

I have a very nice Xotic Bass BB preamp that is one hell of a distortion unit and a line 6 delay pedal that really does the job... oh and btw someone said that I could adjust my crybaby to target the bass frequencies? thatd be just great... is that even possible? cuz Id really love to give this pedal a little boost :D

btw im really ecstatic about joining this forum and especially the world of double bass :D:D:D:D:D

Did he tour with Ornette Coleman on that last tour in '07? If it was him, then indeed he was using a wah but with an Eminence EUB. Meaning that feedback would not be an issue. At least not as much as it would be if he was using the wah with a "normal" upright. If it wasn't him then never mind :) That said, I have tried effects on an upright and never got a satisfactory response. All kinds of ungodly squeals and non musical feedback. Big time yuck. If you figure something out, please let me know as I would be very interested.
As far as mods for wah pedals I am sure there must be a thread on the Electric side of the forum. Plenty of guys out there tweaking every pedal known to man. And bless them for that :)

I hate playing the electric guitar, but note that there are some electric blues songs that my band is doing that would sound good with the bass having a bit more of the electric type sustain.

I asked this question a while back and some folks suggested that I get one of those bass sound processors. There are some pretty cheap boxes around including one by Behringer. I never ended up trying it however and in fact a couple of weeks ago I broke down and bought an electric bass guitar after years of saying I would never go near one. :)

I talked to Dan last time EST was in Chicago. He was using a Fishman BP-100 and an small diaphram AKG mic (not sure which one) wrapped in foam and shoved between the feet of his bridge. He had some pod effects thing. He had a GK 800rb (rented I'd assume) and a pair of Hartke cabs. He said it is a mic that he borrowed from Esbjorn. He got a killer sound both effected and clean.

Thanks a lot for the info :D Im kinda obsessed by E.S.T.'s music lately, got their last 3 cds and I cant stop listening to them... anyways im getting myself some nice first carved chineese upright bass and I was wondering what gear dan berglund was using since I cant see anything on the E.S.T. videos I watched... But now that I know, it surely is giving me ideas :D Although, Im pretty surprised that he is only using a line6 pod for is distortion cuz... its sounds good ... and I though the only really good thing line6 did was the delay (green) pedal that I have right here... Thank a lot!

E.S.T. stands for Esbjorn Svensson Trio...
Now if you don't know Esbjorn Svensson, it's obvious you don't know the band since I'm pretty sure he's the most "famous" member... They're style is labeled as Neo Bop and hmmm I guess you could say that Esbjorn has some chaotically melodic playing that can make you fall off your chair and give you goosebumps at the same time and yeah, the drummer is great and Dan Berglund (the upright bass player) is some crazy mother******. A good example could be the song "When god invented the coffee break" that can easily be viewed on youtube.... Im kinda stuck on them... its a great band... thats about it... :D

I use a wah on the bass, when it seems like it would be cool and fun, bass wah cry baby,but you got to set up the frequency range and the volume right so you don't feed back, I also have used and use a whammy, though for higher pitches it get out of tune easily, but with a bow and a delay you get some nice sounds and solo's. I always use a reverb for bowing when amplified through a piezo, it kind of softens up the sound, makes it sweeter. The piezo usually make the bow sound more like a saw. I set the whammy so only an octave up was herd and with a wah it was pretty cool, doing guitar like riffs. Of coarse it was a three piece band that had no guitar, I guess it would make no sense doing it if there was a guitarist. But I think we should try everything out, it doesn't you have to keep buying effects, and pedals, you can always borrow from a friend to try it out.
