waiting for my fodera (daily thoughts)

Hey Dude! Now many Monarchs are you getting :) It could be great to a picture of all your Fodera's :D

Embarassingly, at the end of the day I will end up with five. I have four now. Once the one on order finally arrives, I will certainly post a family snapshot and then check myself permanenatly into some type of clinic to cure GAS....

J'ai vu le même pseudo que sur AF sur un avis concernant une Emperor II! Funny!
I've seen nice Foderas on Glenn website, I'd like to order one, but before I have to pay the french taxes! (you may have heard about that in France!)
I'm looking for an emperor 5... so I will assiduously follow how you manage to survive until delivery day of your next bass!

yes I heard about french taxes, but I have a friend in austin so I'll try to have my bass with her, and if I can't, I will pay the taxes (what the heck, it's for my 30th birthday!!!) and maybe then I'll buy an fbass 5 string fretless because imo , they are the best fretless basses out there!

If you want to buy an emperor 5, I suggest to deal with Glenn at ABT because he really tries to understand what you need.

For example, I asked him about the imperial garrison model, and he told me that it wasn't what I was looking for, (he didn't cared about the fact that the bass was 2000$ more than the bona model) so you can trust him.

Moreover dollar for now is not too expensive for us euro users (of course the bass is still expensive!!) but considering the fact that I want a keeper and also that if I want to sell it in france, I wont loose any money (when I sold my emperor 2, I earned a lot !!)

I would plan on a year. My Monarch 4-string that was due by the end of July (and has been on order for 2 years through Bass Central) is nowhere near ready. Whatever the due date is, add 3-6 months. BTW, I am not bitter at all. Bottom line is that Joey and Vinny do what it takes to build as close to perfect basses as possible and time really does not enter into their thinking. When it's ready, it's ready and not before.

Oh just thinking of that, i the bass needs one year to be completed and to be perfect, i'll wait, at this price, I expect top quality!

and man you are going to have 5 foderas!!! that's sick lol
I wondering if after receiving this bass, maybe I will order another one 'maybe a monarch classic ) or a fretless from fbass!

today , I received the invoice for my first deposit for my bass, so now it's sure, it will be mine!!!!!
hard to wait all this time though because I have pictures of this bass and to imagine that someday, sme fedex truck is going to bring it to me... I mean whoa!!!!

I bought my first fodera used, but I won't do it again, I prefer being at the begining of the process and having MY bass!

Je parlais des impots! Pour moi cela représente une partie d'une Fodera chaque année donnée à l'état...:crying:

Nowadays, you can't avoid taxes when importing a bass in France. Above a 22euros declared value, customs will ask you the invoice to pay corresponding VAT. It sucks. The only way to avoid it is to travel to USA and bring it with you back to France as a luggage.

I've tried the MG model (walnut body quilted maple top, maple neck w/ rosewood fingerboard & dual coils), really nice sounding, plays like butter, but I didn't like the SC design.

And I've already mailed Glenn in the past but he didn't answer to me... I'll try to call him...

LOL je sais ce que tu ressens pour les impots! j'en paye pas mal!!

I know about the taxes so I will try to go to the USA to bring the instrument back with me as a luggage

the MG model is great but it's not really the kind of sound( it's a great sound though!) and I love the single cut design on fodera, I find the access to the upper register to be fantastic

strange about glenn, I emailed him and he answered really fast!!
the same when I called him!

Yeah, and all of them are Monarch 4-strings. I have this really bad problem in that when I see one that is gorgeous that is for sale at a great price I cannot help myself. I am now at my absolute limit however, because these basses need to be PLAYED. I will probably take the family photo with all 5 when the last one arrives from Fodera and then sell one of them. With four each one can be played a day or two each week and that works!

The new one and my Yin Yang will be the only ones that I have spec'd completely myself (with the Joey and Vinny's help). The others were all bought either used or as finished basses from a dealer.

I think you sound like a whiny little house flower. You want sympathy because you have a Fodera on the way? Buck up and be a man! ;)

ok, maybe I'm a little jealous! But I' refuse to feel sorry for you because of the wait!

Lol i'll try to stand up like a man, promise you!!!:)
today, when I woke up I checked my bank account and woosh!!!
2819 $ gone, the first deposit is definitely gone!!

so for now I have someone that asks me if I want to trade my marcus miller 5 for a yamaha trb jp2.
so it allows to me to think to other things instead of my future fodera

my last 6 string was a fbass bn6, but I dont have it anymore.

I need a bass with a low B in my arsenal, my marcus miller 5 is really good, but it would be cool to have a 6 string too.
the fodera would be my only 5 string (the 6 string has a low b too I know)

but to think that I may trade my marcus miller 5 for another bass makes my days easier lol:smug:

Hi Black Rose,
this is a pretty good idea. Congrats on your soon to be new Fodera. I have a 5 string monarch Deluxe on order. Mahogany body, maple top. Really looking forward to it. I keep looking at the pictures and the specs and keep dreaming.
I play my 4 string Monarch every day and I am so thankful to have it. I got mine back in the old days when there was no wait at all. But that was 25 years ago ha ha... I fell in love with it as soon as Joey took it out of the bag. When I held it, I knew I would never let it go. I am looking forward to the same experience with the new one.
Peace
Guy
