waiting for my fodera (daily thoughts)

hey man,
well, I love my original Monarch so much we are fashioning it after that one. The Body is Mahogony, Ebony finger board,
neck is 5 piece maple and Walnut. My original has a Zebra wood top but I am with Quilted maple on this one. The neck profile is customized for me. I heard the Semore Duncans on Pope's and David Yate's basses and really liked the sound with Mikes pre, so I am going with those. It will be strung E to C with a drop tuner on the E.

Do you call this a neck-thru? I don't... I've never seen a neck-thru Fodera.

A bolt-on will always sound punchier and fuller than any neck-thru or set-neck, hands down. For those who buy a Fodera wanting the Marcus sound, beware, not gonna happen...

That is a neck through. How could it not be neck through? Fodera uses the heel block and accent stripe behind the neck wood but the neck goes all the way through the body. It is hard to see if it has a full top however.

As for buying a Fodera if you want a Marcus Miller sound, it wouldn't be the best idea. You'd be far better off buying a Marcus Miller sig.; BUT... I've heard people get approximate sounds out of set neck and neck through basses whether they're Foderas or not. I think that the neck joint really makes little difference in terms of sound.

Do bolt-ons sound punchier and fuller? In my opinion no. Slightly less compressed? Maybe, but I think it is a negligable influence compared to things like wood choice and pickup placement.

I think the theory of bolt-ons being punchier / fuller comes from the fact that the Fender jazz, which sounds punchy and full, has a bolt on neck. It's an obvious visual difference compared to a custom with a neck through, but has far less influence on making 'custom X' with the through neck less punchy that the fact it has EMG soapbars rammed up against the bridge rather than jazz pickups with Fender spacing (This does not apply to Fodera as they use Fender spacing; just a crude example).

FWIW, I have no real preference for any kind of neck joint, visually, but on Foderas the set neck was by far the most comfortable for me.

Hey, no mistake about that, I don't want the "marcus slap sound " with this fodera!
for that I already have a marcus sig 4 with onboard sadowsky, and a marcus miller 5

it's just that I want a great slap sound and I sure that my future fodera will be able to give me that!

Listen to Richard bona when he slaps his bass , the tone is simply great, no matter if it is a neck through or not!
wooten has also a great tone (imo) and is bass is the same!

I 've ordered this bass because I want an all around with great access to the upper register, great fingerstyle and great style, sort of an all in one!

I know that no bass can do it ll, but I'm sure that my future bass, combined with my fingers and playing will be able to do that.

music comes from me, not the bass, I buy this kind of bass to help me to play better because I know fodera are soooo easy to play

Moreover, Glenn at ABT told me that this bass has the sound i'm looking for, and I trust him that's all!

Indeed, Fodera's playability is second to none and I think this bass will give you what you're looking for: A great bass that will do several styles and will always sound good.

I think the same about marcus sound vs vic sound
it's just the fact that I'm sure I can get a great sound out of this bass!

I once saw marcus onstage with a ken smith 6 string and when he slapped it, it was marcus' great tone through smith's tone but still marcus!

and by the way, you're lucky to own 3 foderas!!

I think that when I'll get my imperial, i'll order a monarch classic wooten because I want a 4 string too!!, but I'll wait first to have the imperial

I own two Foderas - both ordered new and I can't talk bad about the waiting time ;):D but that depens on your dealer ;)

I'm dreaming of a Tom Kennedy Modell as a fretless with rosewood top at the moment ... but I have no money :bawl:

I've ordered an Emperor elite 4 & one year later an Imperial 5 both new because I'm a lefty :)

Lothar and Hans-Peter did an awesome job !

of course Vinny & Joey too :smug:

yes the monarch is gone,

I remember it was here in 2006, because before buying my emperor 2, i wanted to buy this monarch from them.

Anyway, I hope the dude who has it is happy!

I will see where I'll buy the next fodera, I think I'll stick with ABT
