Hi all you WAL Bass Player,

my name is Ed from Germany and I started playing (fretless) bass in 1980 until 1995 and I played a lot of different basses but unfortunately only once in my life I played a WAL Bass. It was love at first sight but I was a poor student. So I´ve never had a WAL Bass on my own.
At the moment I´m playing a Chapman Stick and a 5 string fretless bass by Fame. But playing this bass is frustrating cause I have this wonderful and special sound of a WAL Bass in my mind and I´m looking for one.
Do you know anyone who is selling a fretless WAL Bass? Please let me know…

I got an interesting email today from a nice gentleman in Germany named Ed. He had been searching for a Wal fretless and was contacted by someone in Spain who supposedly has one for sale. What followed were pictures and a description which had been lifted from my blog. Fortunately it seems that Ed recognized the pictures and contacted me to see if my bass had either sold or been stolen.

This is just a friendly reminder to folks to be especially wary of the scams out there. Wal basses (and many other brands) are highly desirable and there seems to be no shortage of the scams engineered to take your money. :scowl:

Please be careful out there folks.

A huge +1! Anyone out there remember the old Pewter MKII fiasco?

he needs his fingers chopped off so he cannot email etc. And if he uses Dragon software or another speech typing programme his tongue can go as well.

Extreme yes but it would put a stop to scams like this.

*** I must stop dreaming about revenge, and return to reality where nothing will be done about this by the authorities.***

The scam unfolds...

The bass being sold was supposedly a black-poly MkII lined fretless fiver with gold hardware. There are probably a few of these out there, so I didn't want to leap to conclusions too quickly.

In the interest of certainty, I emailed the seller to ask the serial number and believe it or not I got a reply back. Unfortunately the serial number belongs to an instrument that I happen to know, and it is neither black nor 5-stringed.

For those of you who aren't aware, there is an unofficial database of Wal serial numbers maintained [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Just one more resource to help prevent scams like this.

Hi Oddio, is the Wal serial number site a complete listing for the older basses? So, if I see W2969 for sale and can't find it on that site it's a fake? :hmm:
