Wal Bass Club.

Hi Oddio, is the Wal serial number site a complete listing for the older basses? So, if I see W2969 for sale and can't find it on that site it's a fake? :hmm:

Cheers

I cant remember exactly how many Wal basses were made but that list is only a fraction of the amount.

Which means that there is a good chance that when a serial # does surface that it wont be on the list. The 2 that i own(ed) were not on this particular list. Paul has "the book" so i would email him the number and see if he can give you any info on it.

My three are not listed on there, although I would like to get them on there if the webmaster ever replies to my email.
Nobody can build a "fake", the electronics are too complex and unique, even Pete's building was different from folks who tried building look-a-likes as far as wood goes. But a scammer can certainly lie about actually having one for sale...which has happened before.

You know, I actually think I have pictures in my database of the real W2969. What is the bass description from the seller? I'm not going to post a pic of it for obvious reasons, but if it's the same bass I'm thinking of, I think that one has changed hands a little while ago and the old listing has popped up reused from scammers before.

I've got a 1984 mkI you can see there behind my guitar player. Its my go-to bass of course. I'll get the sn and better pics when I get home.
It's signed by Ian on the control plate as well!

I've always loved this combination. In fact, the last Wal I ordered was a Wenge MKII fretted with Ebony fingerboard. It was taking forever and finallly I received a call from Bass Central saying that a Maple MKII became available because the owner got tired of waiting and wanted his deposit back, so I took that one instead. Had I never done that, I would've joined the legion of "fully paid with no bass" at that time.

First time for me to buy something that big on the net... I'm about to buy this gorgeous Wal bass, the seller is waiting for a bank transfer from me...

2000 Wal 4 String Electric Bass Guitar Gorgeous

He send me other pictures, I e-mailed Wal to confirm the infos and Paul Herman confirmed me that the number and infos matches the picture... the first owner was a Mr. Cook in the USA... Now the seller should be located in england, in the shetlands...

But I had difficulty to have any other infos from the seller and he is sticked to the bank transfer method for the payment, which is very unsafe... Of course I,M affraid to send him £2300 because of scams and fraud... I would prefer go to buy directly but england is a bit far from Quebec, Canada... lol

So before I send my money I would ask you if you could have any clue that it could be a trap...

many thanks anybody !!

If your in good contact with Paul, i would ask him if there was 2 of these made out of the same block of wood. One just like that sold on Ebay usa within the last 18months or so (guy went by Anthony or Tony), for about $7,200, then he was on one of the forums trying to sell it about 4months later. Look identical but SN could be different. Im going to look and see if i saved the pic of it from the listing...

Hey many thanks for the quick response and the help !! That forum is great !!

I will ask for a picture of the bass with today's news paper... a great idea I should have tought !!! lol

Toolmybass : If you could find these old pictures that would be great, it may help me to verify... Thanks for your inquiry !!
The number of the bass is W4046... Same number on the back plate and the plate at the neck joint. (I made a little search on the net with that number and find nothing...)

There is the respond from Paul :

This bass was sold to a Mr Cook in the US in August 2000 - custom(non standard) features which were asked for on this order include no waist contour, brass nut and narrow nut/neck width/spacing.

The control cover info is correct(my hand writing!).

Good luck!

Best wishes

Paul

He respond me the day after my request... It's nice and helpfull from them since they seems to be really busy !!!

M. Vegas : Before talking trade I will try to get the bass...

thanks again everyone !!

JP,

I too saved the old pictures form the US sale of that MK II.
I'm suspicious too. Those pictures have popped up several times in for sale ads. Those pictures you posted are the same ebay pictures from like two years ago.

The unique feature of that particular Mk II bass is it has no belly contour cut on the back of the body.

Yes, that fits the description... the brass nut is uncommun too...

I've asked the seller for a photo with both the bass and the today's news paper on it, so I could see the date, location and the bass at the same time... Let see what will happen...

The price is quite low too, £2300 is quite a bargain (about $3300 CAD now) !!! Which make me more suspicous now... lol

Lucky for me to have found you guys, Wal addicted !!! lol
