So i just completed getting my 2011 Am Walnut hardware swap over to chrome. I had to get the neck plate replated from gold to chrome and got it late last week. Going to list it on Reverb in the next couple days.....if anyone is interested PM me.

Preface: Recently the band has decided to add a different tuning. Currently we are Drop D Standard and are going to add a few songs a whole step down from that. My main bass in the band is obviously my Wal. Dilemma: For the extra tuning I would not like to retune the Wal mid set. I also have no plans on buying another. So my question.... What is your favorite bass besides a Wal. I'm looking for something Similar but doesn't have to be exactly like a Wal (cause none are). I have several other basses and am currently going to try some string swapping to see if I can get something I'm happy with. in the mean time, I'm curious if anyone has a similar situation where they bass swap mid gig and use something non Wal. Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I ran across a FB post regarding a Fake Wal or "Fal" from Devin Surine. I guess he builds Fal's.. In the attached post he mentions knockoffs having "trademarks from the real thing".. Am I missing something? sounds like a bunch a shizz.. Let me know what you think..

Devin does not build Fals, he found a chinese company that made him a fake mk1, and it had a red body, but it looks for some reason he wanted to build another body for it...maybe he didnt like the sound of the original Fal body (?).

But your right, there's no authorized trademark happening with that chinese company.

Did you see the video he posted of him playing it? He said he had sunk about $800 in getting it built... sounded to my ears exactly like a $500 Warwick Rockbass... and I'd love to measure the nut width, looked like it was 55+mm... immensely wide...

That company makes loads of knock offs, passing off as the real thing - with illegal trademarks applied. Ricky's. PRSs, Gibsons... and the website reads like it's legit so as to trap the foolish and the greedy. Naughty.

As much as I like my Dingwall NG-2, it is not at all like a Wal in terms of sound. I associate Wals with a very prominent mid range, broad and full. It fills so much sonic space. The Dingwall is more like a Stingray, with a very cutting mid range, not taking much space in the mix.

My first suggestion would be a double humbucker Spector or a G&L 2000, they are cheap and very nice sounding basses. They come closest of all the budget basses. Music Man Bongo is another obious one, though it has a very different voice. As you said, nothing can really copy that Wal tone.

Don't think these EB slinky's are going to cut it for me. Seem to be going south already after a couple jams. Do cobalt's die like regular slinky's? Anyone use cobalt's on their Wal? Im running out of options before going back to ordering strings thru the mail again. FWIW my go to's are usually regular dunlop nickels.

I use Cobalt's on my Mk 2.. I like the Hybrid 45-105 set.. Love the Sound!!
