Odd that I got the email telling me they werent taking orders after asking to put a deposit down and 10 minutes later they post all over their social media channels they they're no longer taking orders.

I apologise for potentially being the straw that broke the camels back!

It'll make a good 30th Birthday present to myself, if I get one in 5 years time. I am genuinely worried that they may not take any orders again but here's hoping. They clearly have the demand but is a one man shop sustainable? Its obviously worked so far. Fingers crossed!

Really interesting news! And just at the time when the used prices are going exponentially bananas.
How did they jump from 36 months to 48 months so quickly?
Recent demand? Global Pandemic / Bass buying fever?
I know a lot of Tool fans are middle aged now....???

Speaking of the pandemic, the UK is definitely starting to enjoy "normal life" again after a strict 3 month lock down. My country should have taken a page from their book!

There comes a point on the graph though where that price point for quality has been surpassed and all you’re paying for is the margin for demand. These are incredibly high quality instruments but they were still high quality when they were thousands of dollars less to purchase. Nobody’s complaining about the quality of Wals from the 90s when they were much more affordable (even factoring in inflation). Therefore the additional price margin is solely due to high demand and shortage of supply and has nothing to do with how good the instruments are. If he wanted to, he could scale up and still retain quality. Someone has simply made the choice to keep the supply low, and the price way way up. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that but it can’t all be attributed to their quality.

He Goes on to give me all of the wiring info for the bank.. .. and then just after today’s announcement of Wal no longer taking orders. He retracts the listing and goes silent.... my guess is he’ll relist it for $10,000 +
Things have officially gotten out of hand when people habitually can not keep their word.. 5 sellers in a row have accepted higher offers or have pulled the listing only to relist at a higher price.
To anyone wondering if these basses are worth the price..the answer is yes!! They are worth it, but you need to keep your word.

Yup I feel like I’m in the same boat, especially frustrating when a seller completely ignores multiple inquiries and then weeks later it turns up on reverb for $11,000 :banghead:

Nothing was pulled out from under you by me. I was asking $8,500 and you offered $7,800. I countered with $8,000 and you balked. At that point, there was no “meeting of the minds”, no offer and acceptance, hence no contract.

I subsequently pulled the listing, as I am fully entitled to do. No shenanigans here, just sour grapes on your end, it seems.

Don't feel bad. Bobby balked at my Mk1 literally on this very day last year when I contemplated selling it. Sad!

Late reply, but yes, I’ve found my fretless Mk1 to be super versatile.
The range of the preamp really helps to get a “just right” tone. You can sit it in the mix as successfully as any other bass guitar. Some good examples of this from other players would be Colin Bass of Camel and John Illsley from Dire Straits on the Alchemy live recording, as well as UK session bassist Rob Burns’ playing on countless BBC sessions.
I recently took both my Precision bass and the Wal to a session and mainly used the Wal. You wouldn’t have even know it was fretless due to the way I played (a trick I learnt from the esteemed Pino). It sounded spot-on and really nice, and I got great feedback from the artist and other musicians.
So yeah, it’s really up to you as a player and your vision and technique. You don’t have to sound like Percy, Mick, Flea, Justin or Geddy.
