Walkabout Scout Combo

I am throwing this out there, hopefully somebody will be able to help out. I am in Huntington WV. There are not a lot of music stores in the area. But, I really want to try a Walkabout Scout. I am hoping someone nearby within a couple of hours drive may have one that I could check out. Any help would be appreciated.

well I've got one in my store in Hattiesburg, MS......if you're passing through!!!

It is so very LOUD and can be dialed in to whatever tone you want. That thing is a beast - But it's heavier than a lead block of the same size so be warned!!!

The only one I like better is my Fender Bassman 100T.

Thanks for the info. I thought it would be lighter with the Neo speakers. I am considering it with the passive extension speaker in a 15 configuration. Use on e for small gigs...two for bigger gigs.

Question, can you disconnect the speaker and run another amp with it? I was considering using a a tube head with it from time to time.

You can, but the Walkabout is a very tubey sounding amp already so you may not want to bother. The draw is being able to pull the head out of the combo and use it with other cabs.

I don't find it all that heavy. The 12" version weighs about 50 lbs. It's just relatively small and dense, so I could see how it feels heavier.

Good to know. I currently have an Ashdowm ABM 500. I like it but, it is a hybrid amp. I do find myself missing the sound of tubes. So, I see another tube amp in my sight. But, I also need a simple combo. Something quick and easy. My older setup a WW head and Bag End isn't exactly loud enough to keep up with a heavy drummer in my blues group.

Which Bag End? A pair of S15D's and the right amp should be more than capable of keeping up with just about anything. A single speaker cab is always going to have a limitation.

The Walkabout Scout cab isn't nearly as efficient or loud as a Bag End, so I don't think you're going to gain any volume by switching to it.

IME, a single S15D will blow away the Walkabout in terms of sheer volume. Add a 2nd S15D and you're talking about competing with much larger cabs. I've heard more than a few people say that a Bag End stack is louder than a Berg NV610.

The Walkabout is a great amp, don't get me wrong. Just don't expect to get more volume from it. I can use mine for band practice and really small gigs, but it would get buried in any other environment of mine.

Tone is a different story. The Walkabout cab and Bag End sound nothing alike.
