Walkabout VS M-Pulse 600

Massive difference. The MPulse is much wider, much deeper bass, much less complexity in the mids. Hard to describe...

Walkabout... warm, mid present, complex, punchy with a nice grind up top.

MPulse600... HUGE low end, smoother mids, wide, open, fat.

Both are nice, but on the gig, the Walkabout kills the MPulse 600 regarding sitting in a mix (IMO).

The BB750 kind of takes the Walkabout to the next level of mid presence, mid complexity, and the ability to really snarl and grind (way too much for me, but cool for the grindy rocker type players).

You'd think they'd be the same, but they're not at all, IME.
I love the Walkabout's fat, warm organic tone, and bought an M600 hoping for "same, but more power."

Not at all. The M600 was cleaner, more hi-fi, and the added bands in the para eq made it harder to dial in a tone I liked, not easier. It didn't have that same mix-filling creamy presence the Walkabout does, at all.

The M600 also did not like a 2 ohm load at all, whereas the Walkabout seems to care not a whit about it.

So, M600 left, Walkabout stayed, and I've been heckling Mesa for a 6-900 watt Walkabout ever since.

Agree with all above. IME there is considerable overlap between the cleanish, barely overdriven tones of the Walkabout and BB750. Trouble is, you need to have them side by side to be certain the BB750 can give you what you specifically dig from the Walkabout. Also, the BB750 is pricey, bulky and heavy for what it is IMHO. Finally, the BB750 does not have the Walkabout's eq panel, which is my absolute favorite.

Agree to all above. The 600 is a nice amp but for a lot less money a Carbine M6 will blow it away for sheer volume, punch and clarity and for warm grindy goodness, the Walkabout really has the tone and is pretty freakin loud despite the 300 watt rating.

I owned the BB750 for awhile too and liked it a lot but the walkabout just sounded nicer to me. Now i own an M9 carbine and a Walkabout and i think I have the best of the Mesa lineup!

I've been reading through the Walkbout and M-Pulse threads with great interest and recently had an opporunity to try a Scout 12. I've nearly decided to get the Walkabout head, but wanted to know if anyone has tried to use it with an Acme BII (2x10) cab. I do like the Acme cab and wanted to make certain that the Walkabout will work before unloading my IAMP800.

Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!! :D

I don't know this from firsthand experience with that combo, but, Acme cabs tend not to be the most efficient cabs in the world.
That might not be the best match, for that reason.

Agree-don't think the WA will have enough power to make that cab sing, based on reviews describing it as power hungry, and knowing the Walkabout is a modestly powered head. It needs an efficient cab to get loud.

That's a great looking rig! Dual rack mounted Walkabouts is not something you see everyday! :)

Thanks for the input. Sorry if I derailed the thread a little bit. Based on the comments about the M-Pulse 600, I probably should give it a listen. Although it seems like it will sound somewhat different than the WA, it may be close enough to suit my tube needs. Thanks for a good thread.

I love my MPULSE 600 head.. it blows away anything I've ever heard.. but it is "clean".. I find it sits in a mix as well as my Ampeg SVT CL.. @ 22 lbs, its power is M A S S I V E.. I mean huge. I found leaving the parametric EQ flat, but on, gives a good sound. It can be had for quite cheap as well.
