Want 2 Buy a New 6 String Bass !!!

Hey guys , i've been playing bass for a while now . I currently have a 5 string bass . I wanna buy a new six string bass . I live in India and the prices here are nearly double that of The USA . So probably when sum friends of mine r goin to the states I'll ask them 2 bring 1 for me .

My Max. Budget is $1000
Also , do u think its safe 2 buy a bass when the person buying has absolutely no idea about them . I plan 2 buy the bass from a store like GUITAR CENTER . DO u think there's a chance I'll get cheated .
I recently played a IBANEZ BTB series bass here BTB676 and i really liked the neck .
Also i played a sound gear series bass n i dint like it that much :(
Plz suggest a bass with a similar neck or can i get a good BTB bass in this budget
I have found the BTB576 but every store seems 2 be out of stock on these .
Do u think there are also sum gr8 basses which are available at stores but are not listed on the website ??

Also , whats the deal with 34" or 35" scale lengths ??? Any HUGE difference ??

Thankx a million guys .

P.S. :: Any reviews about the TECH 21 BASS DRIVER DELUXE ??? Thinking about getting it guys .

Again , Thanx

Guitar Center can definitely hose you.

Their prices for new instruments are pretty much standard, they go by Minimum Advertised Price, so it'll be the same as Musician's Friend, ZZounds, etc. They'll tell you they have "the lowest prices in the nation," a not-so-clever catch phrase since nearly EVERYONE (at least all major online retailers) list at MAP.

On a used instrument, they'll try to hose you. Not outrageously hose you, but probably not a competitive price. No one has the "lowest price" on a piece of used gear.

I'd recommend the SR706. It's got a heck of a neck, really sweet bubinga, too. BRB's are nice as well.

I own a BTB676, its an amazing bass, very easy to play, excellent body, excellent sound, lots of control over your tone which is a plus, They are sold out because of the demand for them, been waiting 5 months for my case for this beast, nothing but backorders. I have a new Dean Vendetta 4.0 5-String bass on the way in Trans Black, should be sweet, packed in a nice coffin case :)
