Want a P/J 5 String - any ideas?

My warmoth 51 P5:

I am sorry for the dumb question but why do you need 24 frets. In general I've seen this requested by a number of people.

I understand the simple answer that there are notes above Eb in the space above the 6th ledger line, but in what use?

Chords, soloing, grooves?
Well, on many basses, the heel on a 21 fret bass makes the last 3 or 4 frets hard for a guy with small hands like me to play. A 24 fret bass puts those notes higher up, and it makes a big difference in what is available to me.

That seems reasonable although I have never owned a bass that limited my left hand access to the fret board. I guess I also ignored the possibility of "tapping" I never really embraced that technique...

well, you might not have smaller hands. It really depends on the heel shape of the bass in question. On a Jazz for example, it's very difficult for me to access the upper registers. On a Quantum, no problem.

Pups were custom wound to my specs by Nordstrand, about $250 for the pair.
Wood bits were about $350 each, finished, by warmoth.
Hardware is all hipshot from bestbassgear, maybe another $250.
Assembly and pickguard by Rodent here, pm him for rates.

Nice. I dig it. Is the bridge a similar to a big single?

Yeah, my avatar bass is awesome...but the double DarkStars didn't do it for me. If I went back to a DS I would go with a single. It was hard to let it go because I think it is one of the most awesome designs ever. But I did get some cash + my Valenti for it in trade.

DD; yep, the bridge is a big single, just wound a little hotter to match the specs of the SCPB5...
I saw you buy the CB DD, but didn't see you flip it...I mighta been all over that!

Sorry for the mutliple posts...but I forgot to add that if money is no object, like if your wife sues some big jerks and wins, maybe she will buy you one of them thar sadowsky P/Js thangs for your pain...it could happen...they've got 'em in 5ers.
