I found my Ampeg 212AV to suit my needs very well. 66 pounds, according to Ampeg and 600 watts RMS. It also fits in the trunk of my car.

I've had 2 Bergantino AE12's (25lbs each) paired with GENZ-BENZ Shuttle MAX 600 for nearly ten years now, and that set up has served me very well with no regrets or compromised tonality. I almost played last weekend with a single 12 but couldn't bring myself to do it. Lately (the last couple years now) I've been running 1 12 with the 600 and the other 12 with a Shuttle 300, (2 amps) allowing any effect while the clean signal is never lost. It's awesome.

I would consider a Neo 4X10 cab (my Markbass 4x10 comes in at about 65 pounds) or if you want to go with even a more portable setup, try vertically stacking two 2x10 cabs (or maybe a combination of a 2x10 and a 4x10 Neo cab). Vertically stacking 2x10's will get the sound closer to your ears, which some players prefer.

If you are looking for some oomph you will likely be unsuccessful making a 1x10 or 1x12 work. You need to move air, and that generally requires the use of multiple speakers.

I do 90% of my gigs with just my Markbass 112, but if I'm on an outdoor stage I'll bring either my 210 or 115 to give it some extra support and bring the 12 closer to my ear.

Unless the 410 is 4 ohm and the 210 is 8 ohm. This is assuming a 2.67 ohm capable head of course.

Just wondering what people use and if anyone else went through the same issue.

Went through the same exact issue over a year ago. Tired of lugging the Mesa 4x10 and M9 during a bout with flu. Switched to an Aguilar SL 410x and Mesa D800+ and have never looked back or had problems with that rig.

I know I’ll get flack for this but I recently went with a Hartke KB15 for weight reasons and it’s worked great for me. For years I used a GK head with Ampeg 610. I let the PA do the work (though the Hartke is louder than you’d think). For larger gigs I actually use it at front of stage in the monitor position.

I just traded in my SWR 2x10C (80 lbs) for a Fender Rumble 200 (34 lbs) and am positively giddy at being able to carry the Rumble with one hand. It is plenty loud too.

The Genzler 410 is killer and weighs in at 55 lbs with a slightly smaller footprint than most 410’s.

Whether a single 112 would work for you is not only about volume. Coverage and the way a cab and bass sit in the mix are also important. I play a single Genzler BA12-3 and haven’t found a situation where it wasn’t enough for me. I put it up on a stand to get closer to my ears and it simply works. It has great dispersion and a wonderful voice. None of the bands I play with are particularly loud though...
