Want to jam with people!

I didn't read through all the posts so maybe this was covered - but something might work (and maybe better for older folks) is to post a thread on nextdoor.com. It might help narrow down responses to people who would have to put out the least effort to meet up. If you're in a small town, this might not be so important.

What are some ways I can find people to play with? I'm 17 in highschool and don't really know anyone who plays any instruments. I've never jammed with anyone but really want to, I just don't know how to go about it. Also I am immensely shy, especially when it come to playing music. I have a hard time playing in front of people. I would like to maybe start/join a band one day

I posted this thread on TB not that long ago: So how do you get into a band without ever having been in a band?

After reading a bunch of the replies to the post, I decided to finally put myself out there on Craigslist with this ad:

Intermediate bassist seeks opportunity to play / jam with others (Tigard, OR)

I think I'm getting a little bored with just playing along to recorded songs! I guess I'd classify myself as an intermediate bass player, and I've never been in a band. As such, I also hope I don't have any bad band habits (whatever they may be). I've played out in a duo a time or two, and in a church setting a few times as well.

I enjoy playing a variety of music including rock, pop, and country. I'd be happy to send you a list of everything I know so far. Plus I've been on sort of a new song kick lately, and trying to really force myself to learn quickly through tabs. I should probably also add that I'm no singer, backup or otherwise- sorry!

I'm 52(m), hold a steady job that I love, and I have very reliable transportation. I'm off work every afternoon no later than 5:15pm, and no later than 4:15pm on most Saturdays. I have every Sunday off. I drink socially, don't do drugs, and I am NOT into drama of any sort. I like to play because it's fun, and if it isn't fun then why bother?

So, if this sounds like anything agreeable to you then please let me know- thanks!

I was contacted by no fewer than seven people in a short period of time. A few I could tell right off were not to my liking, but I managed to hook up with a duo, and next weekend I'm auditioning for a "dad band" that sounds right up my alley.

If you decide to post on Craigslist, I think the most important thing is to be as honest as possible about what you're looking for, and your skill level. The truth will always have more strength than a lie. Good luck!

Hey, I'm just like you! I'm a high schooler that has a passion for bass. No one else plays bass or guitar in my school. I've started a few bands here and there but they all went to crap. I even have trouble playing around people. It's a scary thing. But I hope you find your people to jam with. It truly is a fantastic experience. Good luck, fellow high schooler!
