Double Bass warmest, mellowest strings?

I know - I was sure that was wrong, but who am I to argue with Linn records! :p
When I last actually talked to Arnie at Brighton Jazz club, it was a few years ago and I think at the time he was using Innovations Rockabilly sets, but he was talking about changing and I haven't seen him since then.

+1 for Garbos if you don't want Arco.

My view is that steel strings are designed basically for orchestral musicians who want to get volume and are almost exclusively bowing.

Whereas the Garbos are designed for Jazz pizz players - as I said, if there is a warmer, mellower string - I'd like to hear it and I will buy a set! :p

+1 for velvet garbos, I just put them on and love the rich deep sound and the loose feel under the fingers. The thicker diameter, especially on the D and G gives them a different tone to metal strings, they don't cut through in the same way but have more tone and power in my opinion.
