PSA - Wenge is now available at the Warmoth site again! Yay! Not in time for christmas, but who cares!
Warmoth finally has wenge!! Ordered my neck last week. Should be here mid-January. Woohoo!!
...and all hardware has arrived and survived initial install!
Next up; final string spacing measurements and the ordering of the electronics suite. Decided to go all Nordstrand: A Dual Coil running through a 3B Pre. Simple, yet... hmmmm...
I ordered the body for my Gecko 6 yesterday as well as the Nordstrand Big Splits. Shew...my wallet is much lighter today. So, the neck is already in production. Once I get both pieces, I plan to start the finishing process (I just plan to apply an oil finish to the body and neck). Speaking of which, have any of you ever used Formby's Tung Oil Finish? This is available locally. Otherwise I'll have to order Tru-Oil or something similar.

Another question for Gecko 6 owners...Warmoth no longer carries the TKL cases that fit these basses. So, where do you get one?

I used to recommend a Fender case, which I shared on the UW forums some time ago.

That case has since been discontinued (I think? It's not on Fender's website any more) so your next best option is probably the "iSeries" model by SKB.

Here's mine. Solid bubinga body with custom sweet spot and bridge routes. Body is finished with tru oil. Wenge/bubinga neck with a black ebony unlined fretless board. Neck is finished with wax only. I plan on shielding the cavities and routes, using an East Uni preamp and Aguilar Super Singles. I will finish it with black hipshot hardware.

That's an interesting routing scheme. My 5-string fretless has a custom sweet spot rout, but I put a Nordstrand Bigman, which is 2 of his Big Single pick-ups in one package. It works quite nicely.
i was going after the pick-up locations and wood combo in a thumb 6 for much less moola.
Good call. I'm thinkin' it's pretty safe to say you aren't going to be disappointed.
I carry my gecko 6 in a Contego Pro gig bag. Fits perfectly and offers a good amount of protection for a gig bag.
Shame that Warmoth pulled the cases from stock. I did my best appealing to the staff that they should offer a hard case for this instrument that fits well to protect it. Soon as they finally did, I bought one. In the mean time I had a SKB double rifle case and it was TOTAL over kill. Another option may be to contact TKL directly?Thanks for the info! Honestly though, the SKB case might be overkill for me. My travel with this bass will basically be limited to to/from practice and the occasional local gig. I read somewhere last night that the Invalid Link Removed case would fit the Gecko and I might go that route.

Question about Gecko necks, perhaps one of y'all owners could elucidate:
It appears as if the stringers (contrasting wood laminates) don't run the entire length of the neck, but rather end just shy of the nut.
Is that true, or is that just a design feature that only reveals part of the actual construction?

The wood that makes-up the head stock is a separate piece than the five piece neck. The joint between the head and the neck is angled. (I think it is called a scarf joint.) I does cut the stringers off early, rather than running the entire length of the neck and head.
Warmoth did a good job with the choice of wood for the gecko inlay. Really matches the rest of the fretboard nicely.
I spoke to Spike at Warmoth who told me that they discontinued offering the cases a few years back. The cases ate up a lot of space at the shop, which didn't make sense since they only sold 10-12 a year, and shipping costs on the cases were very high. Makes sense I guess.
