Well after a year of contemplating it I finally pulled the trigger. Ordered all the parts to build another Warmoth. This time my goals were very focused. I was looking for:
Today this showed up:
OK here we go.
With main parts all spread out you can see what I got:
To keep weight and cost down I picked a sunburst chambered body that they had in stock. It weighs 3 lbs 6 ozs.
Chambered ash.
The in-stock neck is basic rosewood dots. Yea, blocks would have been cool but ... I didn't want to spend the money on 'em.
Tuners are the Schaller BML Lites. They are supposedly about the same weight as Hipshot Ultralites but fit the Warmoth neck perfectly. We'll see.
The bridge is the Hipshot Vintage 5-hole mount. A vintage style bridge that supports quick string changes. Sweet! Hopefully it is light enough and sounds good enough.
Pickups? Seymour Duncan SPB-1. Safe, vintage, should be just fine. Well see.
After opening things up and checking them out I headed back to work. On the way an oncoming driver crossed the centerline and squeezed me off the road - and over the side of a 5' embankment into the ditch below. The Jeep came to a rest with 2 wheels in the ditch (did NOT roll ). I put it in 4wd and drove into the lawn on the other side of the ditch. Jeep wasn't right so off to the shop it went. Dang, this is gonna put a kink in my bass building plans!!!
For now I'll leave you with one final shot to give you a taste of how it will look in the end.
