As you may have noticed, despite what I've read others say, there are really no great deals in the Warmoth Showcase. You're better off just ordering whatever you want; it's hardly any more expensive. As to your question about the nut, I'd just call and ask them. I know in the past Warmoth would not install a nut, but I believe that has changed. Apparently, they will also drill holes for attaching to the body, again, something they didn't do in the past. Like I said, give them a buzz. I've got a Warmoth Jazz neck on a Warmoth Precision body and it's an amazingly well balanced instrument. I did have the headstock cut 2+2, however, so I could use Gotoh tuners. Good luck with your search, and don't forget eBay.

And yes, all of their showcase products seem to cost more than just configuring and ordering your own. I don't know about the more high end features on some of them, but for the basic stuff, it appears to cost more on the showcase. I have no idea why that is though.

I'm finding that seems to be the opinion of many. I'm not too concerned about that though. I'll trade a bit more weight in the neck for more stability. I am replacing an MIM Fender neck after all.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought Warmoth necks did'nt fit MIM fenders....

They do fit (the heel size is the same). But here's the kicker. MIM Fender basses have the truss rod adjustment at the peghead end of the neck. Warmoth replacement necks (and I do believe also the MIA Fenders) have the adjustment at the body end.

What you'll have to do (and I will be doing it as well) is route out a spot on the body next to the neck pocket...and also trim out a bit of the pickguard, to allow an allen wrench in there to adjust the truss rod when it's all strung up.

Other than that, they should fit fine. Even if a little sanding needs to be done to make it fit, that's no big deal. I mean we are talking about MIM body wood here...not exactly rare, expensive wood.

I got an e-mail back from Jay at Warmoth...and he answered all my questions.

It will take 8-10 weeks to build my neck. They will build my neck exactly as I want...custom made for me.

I don't want any inlays on the fingerboard...just solid ebony. I get to pick out the fret wire, and for $25 they will install and slot a nut made from Corian.

They do charge $65 to do a satin finish, and $75 for a gloss finish. I can do that myself.

A custom made neck will cost me $222.50 (including shipping).

They do have some necks already done in the showcase...but all of them cost more than what I'm ordering, and none are exactly what I want.

I think it's pretty cool to be able to have a quality, custom neck made for me for less than $225.
