Warmoth Owners Club!!

I think what you mean is to add angle to the E string, not tension. tension would change pitch and you still have an E so the tension is the same but the angle makes a difference.

My former luthier (not mine per se) recommended me to put as many wraps to increase the angle with the nut.
Never had a staying in tube problem. I have MIM basses not the best quality but NEVER a problem.

He is talking about adding downward tension over the nut, nut tension on the string.

Well, on guitar, the goal is to have as few wraps as possible to avoid slipping and stretching, especially with whammy bar use.

You usually pull the string through the hole around backwards and tie it in a knot around the peg, that way you get get less wraps without slipping.

Some locking tuners can manage like half a wrap around the peg because the peg itself clamps down on the end of the string so it won't slip.

If you are trying to get extra downward tension over the nut, try using a retainer bar or something.

Warmoth Build 3

Started gathering parts for this project.
  • Just ordered a Goncalo Alves neck with matching Goncalo Alves finger board from their screaming deals page. Will be fretted with 6115 stainless fretwire. Should be here in 2 weeks.
  • Body will be a Warmoth P, probably black korina with tobacco burst finish
  • I am undecided as to pickup configuration, but am leaning to either a J/P/J similar to the Fender Stu Hamm model or a dual P like the old B.C.Rich's did. Either way they will be passive DiMarzio's.
  • Hipshot Style B Bass bridge, chrome plated solid brass
  • NOS Gibson/Schaller machines

My Warmoth Gecko6.

Looks like we have stalled a bit.
I am currently looking to put together a new Warmoth. Unfortunalely they will not build the body I want. Or at least to this point they won't. I want a 5 string LP Style body.

Call them. They built both an Explorer and Z body for me with Deluxe 5 neck pockets. Cost a bit extra though, but they did do it even after an initial 'no'.

I just ordered most my parts for my new warmoth bass. :hyper:Should see the body soon and the neck in a month or so.

I'm going with a Mahogany Dinky P, with jazz pickup routing, which I'll probably tru oil. If someone has better idea for mahogany please let me know.

A maple jazz neck with an ebony fb, black graph nut, and a warmoth satin finish.

Schaller standard tuners chrome, 463 Schaller bridge.

As far as the pick ups go I haven't figured out just yet, I have a pair of model j's to throw in there, but I was kinda contemplating getting a set of area j's instead.

I'm hoping the fretless maple/ebony neck blends well with the mahogany body. I'm assuming the neck should translate some clear and bright tonality and the mahogany body should add the warmth.

Does this sound like it will work or am I just crazy?:hmm:
