Warmoth Owners Club!!

My two submissions...

This is just sooo sexy! Any details on this?

Hey everyone!

Quick update, haven't done much to the bass besides shielding the control cavity and gathering supplies for applying the oil finish. One thing I have been stumped on, is drilling for the controls. I can't decide wether to drill in a straight line (like a JBass), a curve (like a PBass), or a trapezoid (like a Les Paul). I would like your input on this. Here are some pictures to help (I placed some hardware on the body just for reference, nothing is secured in).

I didn't think of the trapezoid layout till just now, so no picture at this time. Use your imagination. ;)

Thanks for your support guys! :bassist:

I like the curved one too, but any of the options you suggest will look fine. My question is, what will the controls do and how much do you anticipate changing them while playing? Does a line work better than the Les Paul style for you? The curved one would still be my choice, but I'm not you.

The controls are volume+push-pull contour/pan/mids/bass+treble stacked. The only one I would adjust mid-song would be volume maybe. The Les Paul style is probably my least favorite, I have a Les Paul and can never get used to the controls, but I threw that idea out there anyway. I have played on basses with both curved and straight controls, and have not noticed a big difference in functionality between the two, which is why it comes down to looks, which is why I am asking your guy's oppinions. ;)

Thanks.

Finish is on! This wood is very thirsty, it took 8 coats of nitro laquer in 1 day, in Santa Cruz, California! It wants more too, but I don't want to risk losing tone so I stopped.

I'm really excited how it turned out and how the grain popped. Can't wait to complete it!

Warmoth thank you so much for letting me create my dream bass! I'm so excited to start finishing and putting together this beauty. I'm in love!

Looks like we share at least part of a dream.... I constructed this about 2 months ago: Z-bass body (Black Korina on Black Korina, P+J, volume, balance, tone controls) and an Allparts fretless jazz neck (maple, ebony). At this time, a Warmoth neck (Canary with ebony fretboard) to replace the jazz neck is on order....

Nice to meet you, sir. :bassist:

Wow! What a coincidence! I guess great minds think alike. ;) I love your piece of korina too! Its like the mirror of mine, light on the outside, dark in the middle, while mine is light in the middle and dark on the outside. Its sweet looking, dude. :bassist: And i love the oranges that came out, wow! Sweet, man! :)

You know, the best part is that this was a show case body that I encountered when I was looking for an ash body. I changed my mind on the spot.
Let's just hope that sound wise these two are not mirror images, because in that case yours would sound terrible. Can't wait to get that Canary neck bolted on, but it may take some time before it arrives since another neck in the same order needs finishing (which makes delivery time 10-12 weeks).

BTW - a small detail is the tone knob, which has a piece of tortoise on top that matches the orange of the wood spot on.

Yeah I custom ordered mine. And I don't think they will be very tonally similar, since mine is active with J/J. I think yours is going to look awesome with the canary and the orange-y korina. :bassist:
