My first warmoth build- Korina body-Ebony fretboard-Rosewood neck. Heavy but I still love it.
Watco danish oil finish-wet sanded 600grit. Surface is completely sealed and babys butt smooth, even the endgrain. Neck is raw rosewood and ebony-treated with bore oil. Pocket was perfect fit. Frets are gold. Pots are CTS 250k linear VV and 500k audio T with a .051 "black cat" cap. Knobs are solid brass Gretch -neck plate is brass also. Tuners are Gotoh ultralights vintage style reverse. Dimarzio Model Js wired in series. All cavities are painted with conductive paint. Dead silent except when I need her to singOnly thing I am not happy with is the hipshot brass bridge-Babicz is on the way. As I joked in the hardware and setup forum- told my wife to bury me with this one.
For those Gotoh tuners, were those drilled by Warmoth? If so, what size were they drilled for? Thanks.

You now have a classic, considering Gibson is no longer allowing Warmoth to make their designs. Enjoy.
I see you went with the Warmoth headstock. I did the same with my build and really like the modern headstock coupled with my Jazz body.
Here's another shot with my '78 P Bass (non Warmoth!).
Would really like now to do a 5 string version.

Hey Warmoth fans! I am thinking about doing a custom build. I have owned many basses and played for a long time, but I have never built one before.
The specs I am thinking about are:
Body-
Z-Bass
Core: Poplar
Top: Either quilted maple or black korina
Pickups: Seymore Duncan Active PJs
Contours: Tummy, forearm, heel
Neck-
Warmoth
Shaft: Bubinga
Fingerboard: Ebony
Nut: 1 11/16", GraphTech Black TUSQ XL
Contour: Slim taper
Frets: 24 fretless, no lines, side dots only (white side dots)
Please give me feedback on what I should change or not. I am trying to make a bass that sounds good on as many genres as possible and plays/sounds well/good without sacrificing looks.
Questions for you guys:
-What types of finishes should I use? I want to keep it natural, but I have nothing against using things to bring out the wood's color.
-What preamp would you guys suggest for this type of build?
-Have you guys noticed significant sound differences with or without a top wood?
Final Note: I would like to keep this project under $1000-1200 dollars.

I have a Z bass, mahogany body, flame maple top, all contours, string-through body. I can tell you the body is fairly light and ergonomic. The heel contour helps gives excellent access to the upper fret areas.
I made this one a fretless, used Bartolini passive P/Js and a BadAss III bridge. Sounds amazing.

"Pearl" turned out real nice. This Warmoth neck is unlike anything I've seen. She plays herself....Those stainless 6150 frets are amazing! Of course, in the looks department, she is peerless.

Well then! I got this Warmoth neck not long ago for a build I just started. It was an in-stock bubinga neck, with the most amazingly patterned wenge fretboard I think I have ever seen.

where did you get the Fender decals? Did the tinting give the inlays that yellow-ish look or did you go with a different type of inlay?
The bass looks really great! Thinking about replacing the neck on my MIM swamp ash jazz.
