They're more flexible in terms of electronics and wiring but aesthetically they're not as flexible as rear routed bodies with side jacks.

I`m about to start a tribute to JE with a cool Explorer Warmoth bass...
The question is about the finish...I`m totally obsessed with Mr. James Lomenzo`s bass it`s a Warwick Stryker. I`m not sure what exact color is that. It`s a dye...could be dark walnut?...Jacobean??? it`s a walnut body with oil finish??
If someone here please can give me some advice on how can I achieve such beautiful finish I will be all ears....

So I made me a Warmoth fairly recently and I thought I would share with the group.
After 10 years of playing I found that what I loved about my two favorite Fender Basses weren't sold in the same package. I love the classic look of the Fender Jazz Bass body with the old bound and blocked necks and the way the "offset contour" body style hangs on a strap, but I prefer the sound of the Precision Pickup and the thicker, wider neck that Precision Basses offer.
So when I came into a place where I could I afford it, I ordered my dream bass. And I have yet to play one that plays better...
Here are the specs:
Body-
Swamp Ash Body, Jazz Bass Style
Lindy Fralin Precision Pickup
Leo Quann Badass II Bridge
Olympic White Finish
Neck-
Maple Precision Style Neck, Ebony Fretboard with white binding and white pearloid inlays
The smallest damn Frets Warmoth offers (intonation is AWESOME!)

Since the forum won't let me search for 8 or eight, I'm wondering what your opinions are on Warmoth's 8 string conversion neck?
I've played a few regular 4 string Warmoth necks and really liked them, and I have plenty of 4 strings that I figure I can make one into an 8.
There's a nice one in their showcase for $192, and adding a nut is only $30 more (I won't even attempt an eight string nut, too many ways to go wrong). I'd prefer to use guitar tuners for the octaves and have a smaller headstock, but I also like the savings of the showcase neck.
Not sure what body I'd affix it to, I have a few to choose from. I've even got enough tuners if I go with an alternating color scheme. All I'd need is a bridge.

OK - I'll answer my own post...
Hey Jake - yeah I've recently put this together.
The only Warmoth part is the neck but MAN is it perfect. I know not everyone will dig the little modern headstock but I've been wanting to put together a project like this for years...
Fender Frank Bello sig body
Dimarzio P and J (passive with 2 volumes)
Warmoth neck, maple/maple, steel rods, Warmoth headstock, satin finish, standard profile, 1.5 at the nut
gotoh tuners and BA III bridge.
I think in hindsight I'd like to swap the Gotohs for Hipshot clover leaf tuners, maybe put a B/W/B pickguard on and then it would be perfect for me.
