Warmoth Owners Club!!

Thanks guys, I'm really exited about this one..!!! Had you told me a week ago, that I was about to build a green bass I would have laughed, but this one is just soooo nice...

My Warmoth Jazz and the P basses that I have already build are more subtle, and they are special because of the pau ferro necks. This one will be totally different and with a lot of POP. Can't wait for the parts to make their way across the pond

The one on the left is a Warmoth from
1993. 5 string fretless with a Bartolini MM 5
string pickup and Bartolini preamp. Recently upgraded
with a Schaller bridge and Gotoh GB7's.

Interesting pickup layout. What were your goals? Did you achieve them?

Are the toggles for splitting the coils?

Hi,
I originally wanted them set up like a Warwick. My luthier(also a very close friend) suggested this as I like tons of bass, and it offers more tonal choices. How do I like it, I love it, sounds monstrous. Glad I listened to him. He set up the switches for the neck in series or parallel. The bridge is set up for Hum bucking or single. I think I'll have him switch the neck to the same.

As for achieving my goals, I couldn't be happier, Warmoth was excellent to deal with, and everything was above what I was expecting. Can't wait til the second one is built, this one's getting a custom body.
:bassist:

Finally it is finished!!! (sorry for bad iphone pics, doesnt show grain in neck/fb very well)

It is tuned BEAD with the best B string I have ever heard.

Selling my sadowsky and thunderbird to fund maybe a few more...

It has delano pick ups and was constructed by Jeff Mallia (look him up if you dont know him, amazing luthier and bass builder)

for the next build I am thinking to go with a similar concept but a 5 string, with goncalo alves neck/ebony baord, how would GA compare to wenge?

This one looks pretty "standard" looking for a Warmoth build. Swamp Ash body, quartersawn maple neck, rosewood fb. Since these pics were taken, I installed a set of SD QPs with an Orange Drop cap, V/T controls and Pickup selector switch, but that will probably change...

Fiesta red never looks the same in any two pictures.
My next build will be a fancy wood Gecko 5.

An update on HULK, the green monster

Warmoth shipped the parts super fast and I now have the body and neck. I really, really like the first Warmoth Jazz and the Warmoth P that I have build, but I must say that this one will be in a different league (for me). I think that the body and neck are PERFECT together and the green burst is just crazy-cool (IMHO).

The green is difficult to photograph, it changes from green POP in sunlight to a subdued dark green. Also in some of the pics it looks like the matching of the two halves is off, but it's just the light that makes some kind of reflections. The matching is perfect (as always from Warmoth).

absolutely gorgeous. You're very lucky.

So I finally got my Frankenbass put together. I still need to set it up and tweak some stuff, but it's:

* MIM Fender Maple/Rosewood Jazz Neck

* Warmoth Jazz Body, Lake Placid Blue w/ Tort Pickguard (I think it's Ash, though I'd have to double-check. I bought it from a TB'er a while back)

* Hipshot "A" Bridge

* Hipshot detuner on the E string

* Hanson NeoPunch pickups (standard winding)

Dude, you've put together two (soon to be three) of the most beautiful warmoth's I've seen to date! That thing's gorgeous!

man, this looks REALLY cool. the warmoths that i've thought about building have been simple finishes, but i was nking that if i went with a finish like yours i probably wouldn't even bother with a pickgaurd, i feel like it would just cover up too much when you're spending more on a great finish

Yes, HULK will be a really cool green monster..! :D When buying from the Warmoth site it's always a bit of a risk because how will it look when I get it? Especially with a radical color like this one, but I must say that I'm amazed..!!!

To pickguard, or not to pickguard - that is the question... For me personally I prefer the pickguard. IMHO a pick guard just belong on a JAZZ bass, and also the pickguard help to integrate the neck better visually. The black binding and blocks on the neck just blend in better with the body -in my opinion- when there is a matching pickguard like in this case. One can argue that it's dumb to hide the beautiful finish behind a piece of colored plastic, and I respect that argument. But for me it's more the synergy made up of the sum of the parts than to make individual parts shine for themselves...

That is the best-looking finish and wood I have seen in ages. WANT.

I have a question for the Gecko owners. I have a Gecko Wide 5 and I'm using an ABM bridge. It's the one that looks like the Hipshot A. I want to go with the Kahler 7450 and Warmoth informed me that if I shipped my bass to them along with the bridge (because Kahler has changed it at least 3 times) they would charge me $45 to do the rout.
One question, anyone posting using the combo I now want and how is it working?
