I had the same problem with the pickguard I ordered from them for my Jazz. I just laid my metal control plate on top of the pickguard, traced it and used dremel sander to shape it to fit the metal part. I had to do the same to make the neck fit also, it was narrower than the neck pocket! I don't know if they do that on purpose so that people can fine-tune them, Wylee????

Warmoth pickguards fit perfectly with the control cavity plates they also stock and sell. (See pic) They don't marry up with plates made by other manufacturers. (Don't ask, I don't know which)

Fender, Carvin, Allparts, etc etc, it's a chance you take if you decide not to also order a plate from Warmoth when you order everything else.

I'm not sure if the Warmoth sales staff even know to tell customers this, but hopefully they will.

Warmoth pickguard+ Warmoth control plate=perfect fit every time.

@Doug: I wanted an Audere, so what is my solution then???

Suggest getting a plate from Warmoth and drill whatever extra holes you need for the Audere on the new plate and use it instead. Not sure which Audere plate/pre-amp you plan to use. Maybe post a pic of it here?

I know but if you move the metal plate more inward, like into the v groove, then it is too small, if you see what I mean

yes as long as moving the plate into the V groove does not bring the pots underneath to close to the cavity. I don't have this problem on mine since I also have it back-routed

BTW I would like to one day visit the hometown of "les gones de la Croix-Rousse"

Yeah I tried to "simulate" what you advised me and it should be doable. At least my luthier got the tools to do it. It probably won't be the perfect match, but still it should look better than with the grand canyon... oops i mean gap.

haha, no, I was born in the US but my family is from "l'ile Maurice (Mauritius)" and I grew up there, so French is my first language, and French culture is what permeates everything there, including books and movies.

We've seen quite a variance in the shape of control plates from different vendors. (Even among our own vendors over the years...) The pickguards are cut to fit the control plates Warmoth carries. The Audere plate looks to have a bit more of a peak to it. As has been mentioned, a little sanding on the pickguard could be just the ticket.

Thanks for the reply! I'll explain the situation to my luthier and he'll do the sanding when assembling the bass. But I have two pickguards, so even more work for him haha ^^.

yes as far as I know, it is in the same location, which causes Warmoth to make a slightly modified Jazz pickguard to go with it. It sounds just like a P to me!

I finished up the LP bass with some fretsonthenet parts . I went with an Aluminum neck plate and really dig it .
