Transparent Blue Swamp Ash with Wenge neck/Ebony Fretboard. David at SGD Lutherie is currently building my ND3 pickups and Larry Smoak at Wooden Wizrd will do the final assembly!

So my reranch job is done , I'm going to smooth it over a bit today and wrap up this build . Still sorting out the simulated pot thing . Very happy with the way the faux binding came out though and was stupid easy to do with the 1/4 3M Blue Fine Line Striping Tape .

Yes it is a custom case that you can get with the Gecko series from Warmoth. I custom ordered it back in January. Davis should have my pickups finished int he next few days and then I'll be headed to Virginia with it to Larry Smoak for final assembly. Already working on the J Bass specs for my next custom job!:hyper:

Yea - I don't think it looks TOO plain without it, but the guard does makes it look complete. Funny thing is that the Jr style guard looks (IMO) better with a P-style pup than any Gibson style.

Well after going through all 19 pages of this thread, i have re awoken my GAS to get myself a warmoth.

I was thinking of going for a high end jazz style bass, with some real gnarly tone as i will probably have it set up in BEAD. But i wanted to use a neck with no finish, so i was thinking wenge with ebony board?

And for the body i was thinking swamp ash as a base with zebrawood top.
Now i dont know all too much about wood combinations and such, i will most likely end up going the passive route as on all my active basses, i have everything flat anyway :S.

Any input or suggestions on wood choices?

And i have some possibly stupid questions. Such as when you order a neck with specific frets, nut and inlays, do they install all of those for you?

I hope this ends up being a great bass, as good if not better than my sadowsky would be nice :P

That sounds nice , I have a Wenge & Ebony neck on my Warmoth LP just above and it's awesome ! They do all the fret , nut and inlay work , though sometimes a little final nut & finish work is needed depending on your setup preferences & string gauges. For an aggressive passive Jazz bass I'd take a look at DiMarzio pickups , I also really like Suhr & Aero p/u's . Have fun with your build !

I am getting quite excited for it, the amount of options is, quite daunting.....more than you can get in one bass for sure. And now the thought of having my first fretless is maybe in the cards, but for the music i play i dont think it would suit....or be present enough (heavily bass and drum orientated)

I was wondering about pickups....thanks for that, i will check them out.

Im sure this has been answered many times, but how long does it take them to usually cut a body, and to cut and dress a neck?

I ordered a body at the end of March and it shipped at the end of last week. It's about 4 weeks. But this is dependent on options. They actually stock a lot of bodies and necks with "standard" options and those are ready to ship very quickly (usually within a week).
Generally speaking, I would expect to wait between 2 and 6 weeks.

It depends on the current workload and what you mean by cut a body.

Unfinished bodies and necks from scratch take 4-6 weeks on average. Adding a finish can take another 4-6 weeks.

Routing Showcase bodies can usually be handled in about a week. The same goes for fretting and adding a nut to a Showcase neck. Again, those are averages and depend on current workload.
