Yeah, that sound isn't what I'm looking for, either. That's why I'm ordering mine without pickup routs and having someone else get it situated for the BS/DS pickups, with the pickup placement pushed much further up towards the fingerboard.
This is what I'm going for, just don't want to spend that kind of money.
