Well... Don't bother. Sorry, but I don't have any good news for you with regards to Warmoth and I strongly advise that you take your business elsewhere.
It was interesting because what initially attracted me to Warmoth, over USACG was the fact that it said "Fender Licensed" and that they create PBass and JBass necks, with this added "Super Construction". However, when I got the neck, it was THICK. So THICK, that I contemplated about it for a while. But, I decided, stupidly I might add, to at least set the neck on the body to see if I could get on board with neck. Also, when I inspected the neck, about the only thing that was Fender was the HeadStock and the fact that it fitted my PBass body. Of course, when I raised my concern with them, they mentioned to me that because I attached it to the BODY, it was considered ALTERED.
I took it in stride, and considering the situation, I was actually pretty cool about it. With that, I then figured out... Well, if I am going to make this work for me, then what I can do is have my guy help me to take it down to more a PBass feel and refinish for me. So, I asked them to refund me the money on the Clear Satin Finish that I ordered from the neck. That way, I don't eat it on the Finish. I explained to them further that had I known it was going to be that thick of neck and not really a Fender Licensed Neck, I either wouldn't have bought it, or, I would not have ordered the finish, had it taken down and refinished myself. That their site is deceptive in that someone thinks they are getting something that is Fender Licensed, meaning something "Fender-Like" and that the impression one is left with is that a PBass neck with Feel and Function similar to a PBass neck. Since that was not the case, a refund on the Clear Satin Finish would help to amend things, a bit. I would at least be happy with that. They disagreed. Which to me, is uncool. As I did more homework, about negative reports, I started unearth a whole lot of negatives about the company... I am not the first person they screwed.
During all this. I decided to try the neck, as is, on my 93 MiM Fender Body. I put in brand new BML Tuners, added a Bad Ass II, a set Roto-Sound Round Wounds, Heavy Gauge which I love. I've worked with the neck for days and days, to be honest, it's not that great. The tone on my PBass changed dramatically... instead of sounding warmer, it actually sounds TINNY. It's not that great to set up and I don't think it lives up to all it is hyped up to be. Later, I changed the electronics with better components, everything, pots, wiring, capacitors, etc. It didn't matter what I had done, this bass lost all that tonality it had before. I would've been better off putting a little work into the old neck and make that work... seriously.
I started really getting down and talking to people. What was interesting is that there is a lot of positive coming from another company called USA Custom Guitars, people high and low, like Tommy's work. So, for right now, I am stuck with this neck. I was contemplating selling it, but I can't bring myself to screw someone over like that. I was thinking of telling the UnofficalWarmoth forum that I would be interested in selling it, since they would know what to expect... lol. But, to me, that was total surprise and I think they're way over hyped.
