Warrior Club Part 2

Anyone try TI Jazz flats on their Warrior ?
Just curious...
I've got them on my Gecko 5 and they sound really good. I've got EB Cobalt's on both of my Warriors (and my Roscoe) and totally love them! They actually sound very similar to TI Flats and at Less than 1/2 the price of TI Flats. I actually think that the B string is a little better on the Cobalt flats.

Here's a video clip from a couple months ago with one of my Warriors with the EB Cobalt flats.

I've never tried Cobalt flats, but they're much stiffer/higher tension than most, way more than TI's, correct?

The Cobolt’s do have more tension than the TI Flats but not really more than nickel RW’s. The TI flats are almost too loose feeling. If you like looser tension of the TI’s, then definitely go with them. They sound great. The TI’s have a bit more midrange growl but honestly, in the mix they sound very similar.
A 5 string set of TI Flats cost around $170 and a 5 string set of EB Cobalt flats cost around $69.99 ($59.98 on sale). Both last forever.

I get the economics of it, and I've played the TI's before and loved them. My preferences have evolved though, and I may try the Cobalts, but I'm not a fan of high tension.

Oh me either. I just couldn’t handle the LaBella’s. Way too much tension. Cobalts are not at all like the LaBella Deep Talking flat’s.
They feel great playing both finger style and with a pick.

I've used the LaBella LTF's (but not the DR flats) and thought they were great. More tension than TI's, but not too much.

I have heard the the LaBella LTF’s have much less tension than the DTF’s. But most players that I talk to that love the DTF’s don’t like the LTF’s. They say they don’t have the old school flat sound. I’m not really a fan of that though I prefer the sound of the modern flat’s.
I probably should try the LTF’s.

So....I have been talking to the folks in GA...I have a custom Messenger coming in the next 3 months! Locking down deets now...this will be my 4th? 5th? Warrior, but the first custom made for me. I LOVE their 4 string necks, and this one will be 33" scale!! Woot!
Congrats! I’ve never played one of their 33” scale basses. I do like the fact though that both of my custom build DM 5’s are 34 in lieu of 35.
The neck profile on their 5’s is second to none!

After transitioning to 33" for all of my basses (except for Fender), I am excited to get the Warrior neck with a smaller scale....AND vintage small frets!
I had SS vintage small frets installed on my Gecko 5 and totally love them.
I probably should have thought of that when I built my 2 Warriors.
Both my Gecko and Roscoe are 35” scale and transitioning back and forth from the 34” scale on the Warrior’s to the 35” scale on the Gecko and Roscoe isn’t an issue. Not sure how I’d do throwing a 33” scale bass into the mix.

I hear you Matt. I’ve got several friends that have developed hand and finger issues over the years. Sounds like you made a great decision going to 33” scale. Hopefully it’ll be much less wearing on you hands.
So far I’ve been able got Tal a Meloxicam a couple days prior to weekends I gig and my hands and fingers feel great.
