Warwick Corvette STD 5 string hurts my hand

I bought myself a 5 string Warwick Corvette recently and I just absolutly love it!

But I have a problem. I switched from a Slim 4 string Jazz profile neck to a baseball bat neck thats much wider. I am experiencing pain in my fretting hand. Well its not exactly pain its sort of like an annoying, uncomfortable feeling thats hard to explain but I am sure everyone here got it before.

I play for about 6 hours a day with regular breaks in between. I never experienced this with my other basses.

Am I just getting adjusted to the bass or do you think I am getting Tendonitis (sp?)

I really hope not...

BTW I always do full body stretches before I play for about 10mins.

I know what you mean, it's the exact feeling I had when I've got my Thumb (after playing the last few years only Ibby SRs & EDBs); I'd say it'a matter of adjusting to the W neck and overall orgonomics of the bass. One thing you should experience (again) is: how high or low to strap the bass - I had to strap the bass way higher than what I was used to in order for the playing to become more comfortable and effortless.
It takes a bit of time to get used to the W necks, but I can confirm what other ppl have said many times on this forum: the more you play your Wicks, the more natural and comfortable you will feel. And once you get acustomed to them, you'll never get back to anything else, they have a unique feel that make 'em stand out.

Hi mattsbass.

Six hours per day? I admire your dedication, but perhaps you could help things along by easing into your new bass to give your hand & wrist muscles time to adapt. (At this point they could likely do with more rest.)

Ultimately your body is warning you that more must be done to make your instrument adjust to you. And your post here indicates that you are smart enough to listen.

I wasn't, and continued to play basses which were inappropriate for my playing style (dictated by how I like a bass to sound) until I developed wrist problems which forced me switch to an alternate design.

Now I'm not saying that your new bass is wrong for you.

But I am saying that if your discomfort persists even after a making a concerted effort to 'meet the instrument', then a decision will have to be made...
