Warwick Differences?

Can someone tell me about the differences about this to basses, in sound and tone, quality, etc?

Fortress One 1994:
Aguilar PreAmp
Active MEC pick ups
Maple and Wenge Woods

Corvette Standar 2006:
Swamp ash
Ovangkol
Wenge
MEC J/J Passive

Which one will you choose?

If you get a warwick, you must get a wenge neck. That is a warwick signiture feature...

Thanks, i`ve notice everyone says that! but why? What is the thing about wenge? Feeling? Speed?

check out this vette standard, it says Wenge Fretboard, does it has one?

Im really into this bass, and is really cheap (for Argentina! you guys are paying 1/3 what it cost here!).. but i dont know if it is korean made or german..it was buy in USA in2008 and the owner said that is german.. but i cant be sure.

Played all sorts of warwicks neck and I don't have the assumption that wenge is better. Honestly the newer ovankol necks feel alot smoother faster and sturdier to me. Sound wise it's very minute to compare.
I prefer the feel of the newer ovankols with slim profile.

Wenge is a denser wood than ovangkol so I think that (among other things) contributes to a tighter and slightly better sounding B string on a 5 string.

Consider that the heavier wenge neck lends to the neck dive on the Thumbs (which I combat with a good wide strap). The Fortress likely doesn't suffer from neck dive since it has a longer upper horn than the Thumbs.

Of the three that have made it into this thread,...I'd get the old Fortress. I just could never get on with the aesthetics of the 'Vettes

As far as the questions concerning the red 'Vette for 1500,...that does indeed look like a wenge fingerboard,...the neck is likely ovangkol and it is likely a German made Corvette STD. I'm unsure when Warwick move production of the Standards to Korea but I think it was after 2008. The current finish on the Pros is more burgundy and is an oil finish. The 'Vette in the ad appears to be a more red poly finish which makes me question if that is indeed bubinga. The grain looks closer to Swamp Ash to me which is appropriate for Corvette Standards and AFAIK Warwick didn't use poly finish on bubinga.

If you can get serial #s,...these will tell you a bit about the basses and help suss out any inaccuracies in the listings.

thanks a lot! i will try to get the serial number of the red corvette, couse is the one that i like most and its a little cheaper!

Bubinga is better than ash? lighter? influence the sound?
I´ll wait an answer from the owner of the bass, and i hope is German Made and Bubinga :P

thanks!

To SOME extent the woods used to make the neck affect the tone the instrument produces... Wenge being a harder wood makes for a more punchy sound... a common question I hear is about this... and why some bass necks have a stripe down them.... that is from using different woods in the neck to get a different tone... it is also done in the body of the bass as well, but do to some finish options and paints you may not be able to tell... the only way to determine what is right for you is to play multiple ones until you find the one that fits you =D

Bubinga is heavier than Ash (at least from the one used by Warwick). The trademark Warwick sounds comes from the dense woods they generally use.

Since a lot of people consider that neck plays an important role in the overall sound, Wenge necks should deliver a deeper more compressed than Ovangkol.

Warwick stopped using Wenge for their necks around 1998/99 and switched to Ovangkol.

I`m pretty sure the red Corvette you linked is ash bodied.
