Warwick Dolphin Pro I for Spector NS-5H2-EX?

I am contemplating a trade of my 2004 Warwick Dolphin Pro I 4 string for a Spector NS-5H2-EX 5 string in Buckeye Burl.

The Warwick is an awesome bass. It has tons of tone is great for finger picking and slapping. I love the bass and its unique styling.

I am contemplating a trade as I do not have a 5 string and have been looking for one. I thought it would be a Modulus Quantum 5 until I played the Spector. The Spector blew me away and felt really comfortable in my hands where most 5'ers do not.

The Dolphin is discontinued and not many come up for sale so pricing the used Dolphin is difficult. Also, this is a great bass and I wonder about its potential for appreciation.

Any thoughts?

If I were you (which I'm not), I would realize that you have an incredible and rare bass in your hands (Warwick) and i would not want to let it go, because it seems as if you already love the feel and sound.

That said, I would try to play around on the exact Spector in question a bit more if possible

I just picked up the Dolphin to see if the love was still there and the answer is yes. I am having serious second thoughts about giving up the Dolphin.

I was just blown away by the Spector. I have always wanted a Kramer era 4 string. The 5er I tried just spoke to me. The B string sustained forever. I was surprised at the sustain for a bolt on neck. I love the Spector neck thru's and never gave the bolt on's a look.

The electronics were the Aggie preamp and it sounded great. The Buckeye was eye popping. The finish was spectacular. I am missing a 5er in my collection and this should be it.

The Dolphin Pro 1 has not been discontinued.
It's the Dolphin set neck that was discontinued at the end of 2008,along with all set neck's by Warwick.

Re.It's value.It's not going to appreciate anytime soon,if anything,it'll depreciate.
Sad but true.
Take my friends custom shop Dolphin Pro 1 as an example.New,this bass would cost about $12000US.It's in 100% pristine condition & is going for $3900US obo.

Wow. Bummer for your friend.

As far as appreciation is concerned, it seems Fenders are the only things that appreciate. The best other basses can do is maintain value and rise with inflation. I have seen some Wal's for sale that I thought should be gaining in value but it seems they just maintain value.

Yeah,It's not good huh.
I remember back in the 80's when Fenders were considered to be inferior,cheap & mostly nasty.Those same basses are seeling for rediculous prices these days.All thanks to speculation & people putting their superannuation money into vintage instruments,rather than shares & property,like they traditionally have done.
It just goes to show how silly our economy is.

Loving my 'Wicks and my Spector, it really sounds to me like you are attached to the Dolphin - don't give it up. Is there no way for you to snag the Spector without giving up the Dolphin?

I had a Dolphin Pro. Probably the best B string I have ever heard. That wasn't enough for me to keep it. It was heavy. didn't balance well, while the shape is unique and very cool, it is awkward for sitting. I sold it very quickly. Spector's are nice basses. I'd say if you like the Spector go for it.

Now that I have slept on it, I do feel like I would regret giving up the Dolphin. I love the many sounds I can get from it and the feel of the neck.

The comments reinforce my feelings. Keep the Dolphin and try and get the Spector another way; Spectors are well loved by bassists as well.

I am selling a Nash 62JB (see classifieds) and a MIJ Fless JB to finance another bass. I may add a 1977 Rickenbacker 4001 to the list up for adoption.
