Warwick high gloss finish

hey warwick experts,

so i'm thinking about getting a used streamer stage 1 with a high gloss paint. it's a bit rough and i was wondering if i can sand it off and apply some oil/wax and make it look like the unpainted ones?

A couple of points to consider.

1) Some bass manufacturers only match the wood on the basses destined to have a transparent finish, so what you have may look bad when you strip it down.

2) Surface finishes work by soaking into the surface, so just sanding off the surface layer will still leave the wood pores clogged. To get rid of all the paint, you need to use a chemical stripper, and then something else to remove the residues of the stripper. In summary, you could sand and varnish, but not sand and oil.

thanks for your input.
it's a see through finish on a highly flamed maple body.
why would it not be possibel to oil it after sanding and chemically stripping it?

Once the wood has been sealed by a previous finish, any attempt at a oiled finish may not come off well, as it is difficult to "un-seal" the wood and the result can be spotty.

If it was a cheapie, it is worth the experimentation, but not with a "Wick unless the loss in resale value doesn't mean anything to you.

I don't recommend to do it.
If it was a natural finished oil you could do it with no doubt, but not on the high polish surface.
Besides Warwick is very specific about its basses maintenance
