Warwick puzzle

If you have the possibility to take the ferry to Helsinki, you could try nearly any Warwick in the shop Musamaailma (www.musamaailma.fi). I own a Warwick Corvette Standard passive with swamp ash body since about 5-6 years. I've been quite satisfied with it but I'm going to change the pickups, they aren't the best. The neck is as someone said thicker than on normal jazz basses, but personally I like it like that.

The Warwicks are in general very comfortable to play and the sound is a bit compressed... More than this I can't tell you, don't have enough experience about them.

Well, I'm too busy to go to Finland just to try a bass. I think I'm gonna take my chances and order the Thumb. Thomann has a pretty good return policy.

Tere MetalAxxe,

I have the Thumb BO 4, and really love it. I looked at the Corvette also, and was able to play the Corvette--my preference was the Thumb, which in my opinion has more growl. But I think the $$ may be more versatile--but the Thumb would be great for all the music that you mentioned to play.

here is a video that will give you an idea of the "growl" you can get from a Thumb:

out of those three, get the Thumb

also check out the Streamer models....they are amazing:bassist:

and Ebay!!!! im not sure if it's still there but there's a real hot Streamer Stage I on there and its and older model too (which many people prefer)

but if ur stuck to those three, the Thumb is what ur lookin for - any tone you want with that growl added on (make sure u get a thick strap though!)

The Thumb's growl is louder and more in-your-face like a lion. My Corvette bubinga growls too, but it's a bit smoother. Like the doberman I used to have as a kid.

The ovangkol and bubinga in the Thumb BO and Corvette accentuate the lower mids nicely for the growl. On the other hand, swamp ash tends to impart a more scooped mid tone.

The Streamer Stage I is another beast entirely. With its maple neck and body, its tone is the smoothest and most refined in the Warwick stable.

Hm... Ok, I'll go for the Thumb, unless there is anything else you guys cn recommend. Since I played one at my local store, I kind of thought about a Fender Jazz Deluxe too. It played real smooth and nice, the sound was good, but it just didn't have that edge i'm looking for. Besides in my humble opinion, a Fender bass is proabably the ugliest bass around, but hey, that's just me.
