Warwick rock bass streamer standard 5 string

I bought one of these on ebay, knowing there could be an issue with the truss rod. Other than the questionable truss rod, it's a beautiful bass.
Seller claimed it is broken. I'm not a professional luthier, not even an apprentice. I'm self taught and learning with each damaged bass I buy and repair. So I'm reaching out to those who can help me with this issue.

Looking you symptoms of a broken truss rod are:
"If your truss rod is broken, you’ll notice that your truss rod wrench spins freely in both directions for more than a turn. Also, if you’ve heard a click sound once you were trying to adjust a truss rod, it might mean that it broke. Lastly, does your barrel nut spin freely? That’s also among the signs. "

Symptoms are when I try to turn the truss rod in either direction the wrench is really tight to turn.

Your thoughts?

the nut is attached. I went to the Warwick site, looked up type of truss rod. it's a dual action, so it cannot be unthreaded/removed.

Warwick Parts - 2-Way Truss Rod, Steel, 580 mm for Warwick & Rockbass Alien

But I think I have some good news! I just tried it again now that the Kroil had time to work. Given that the neck is off the body for now, it still turns a bit stiff, but it does turn now. I put a bit more oil on it and will exercise it more later, but I think it is good to go.

I meant the STRING nut falling off but that’s okay. Don’t forget to manually flex the neck when re-tightening (CW).

Are those truss rods on 1st gen Rockbasses removable like shown in this video?

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the truss rod on your 2003 Warwick Corvette 5-string bass.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the truss rod on your bass model. The last Warwick
basses on which the truss rod was interchangeable were manufactured in 1998.

To change the truss rod on your bass, the fingerboard would have to be removed in order to insert
the new truss rod. Then the fingerboard would have to be glued back on and re-bound.

We regret not being able to give you better news. If you have any further questions or need
further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yep Hans probably emailed you himself it appears. I like that. Pretty cool how he does that. So in light of that id say that you could try having someone try and heat the neck and try to mamipulate the bow with clamps on a bench. With time, patience and tools i think you can free that thing. It just needs the right touch. Penetrating oil, pressure on the neck, work that thing loose, then clamp the neck straight and let it sit for a while, then take the clamps away and tighten rod as needed to set up. Hardest part is just getting it freed. Lots of threads here on guys doing this.

It'a a used bass I'm planing to buy and service it myself ( the truss rod doesn't move, the neck is not warped ).
The guy is asking 220 euro/234 USD.
Do you think that's a fair price?

As it turned out, in my situation, it was not broken, only bound up. Used Kroil penetrating oil, and after a bit it loosened up. I installed new strings. They pulled the head forward, but my now working truss rod had no problem pulling it back in place. So for $225 (= $150 + 75 shipping) and a bit of TLC I scored an $800 to $1000, bass.

Fyi, i was prepared to remove the finger board etc. But thankfully I dodged that bullet.

It's a really sweet instrument. German Engineering at its finest!

I am on a journey of discovery for all things about the Bass. Play, fix, build, etc. Just can't figure out slap.

Its hard to say but id probably buy it. A used neck can be bought for around the same price or less if you absolutely needed to. Id buy it and try to get it to free up. If it plays well once you get it might as well leave it alone for a while. Most of the time they freeze up when nobody touches it for years and they stick. Thats unless some dumb dumb over cranks it too much and maxes it out. Then it bends or breaks or gets stripped out in the neck. But hey you wont know until you're playing with it. Hopefully its just tight and can get worked loose. If seller goes down on price for you even better!
