Warwick Streamer Preamp Swap

I have a 1988 Warwick Streamer with original EMG's and MEC preamp (Volume/Blend/Treble/Bass) which I am considering upgrading to an Aguilar OBP-3sk/pp (Volume/Blend/Bass,trebel stacked/Mid PP). Will this kill my tone? I want a more hifi tone, but want to retain tonal versatility with the addition of a mid control. Has anyone done this updrade?

Texan, I saw your red Streamer on the Warwick forum. My user name there is Rehan.

I have the Aguilar OBP-1 in all three of my Streamers and love it. The Aguilar kicks ass over the stock MEC pre's in Warwicks. I would make the move. You won't be disappointed!

By the way, I have volume/blend controls in the OBPs that are in my Streamers and recently switched one of them to volume/volume. Doing this caused the bass to have a stronger and fuller low end and the overall volume increased. The tone sounds even better now! I am going to switch all my basses to volume/volume on the controls.

I'm considering to buy a second hand Streamer I 5string from 2002, but the owner changed the original MEC preamp to OBP-3 from aguilar, and sold the original preamp to pay for the new one.
I would like to restore the bass, but I haven't decided yet. Can you help me?
Maybe more tips, and your own experience? Your experience feedback helps a lot.
Do you recommend a Aguilar OBP-3 preamp with MEC PU's in streamer stage I? Or should I go to the original configuration?

I didn't like OBP-3 in Warwick Streamer Stage I at all. The bass control is super sensitive so small turn boosts too much low end (that naturally isn't there). Works when playing solo, but not in a band. Lo-mid is 400hz by default. Too high in my opinion - I think Streamer would benefit of 200-250hz boost.

I have an obp-3 in my streamer stage 1 with volume/volume, and a preamp bypass switch, it sounds amazing (TBer Means2anend did that for me). It's a very transparent preamp, if I switch the pre bypass on, when the preamp is set flat, you can hardly tell the difference.

I will also put a volume/volume on my stage 2, and I already installed the preamp bypass.

I recommend installing the dpdt bypass switch, it's really mellow, and nice for chordal stuff, and in general it is a beautiful organic tone.
