Warwick Thumb 5 BO Wood

Hello

I've been asked what type of wood this bass is made of and I can't say for sure. It's a 99 Thumb 5 Bolt On. I understand that some time during 1999 Warwick switched woods of the body/neck/fretboard from Bubinga/Wenge/Wenge to Ovangkol/Ovangkol/Wenge.

The manual from 1999 says it is Bubinga but I'm not sure if that is the final word. The body and the neck appear to be different types of wood which, I think, would also support the idea that it is Buginga since, theoretically, the body and back of the neck would match better if it was made after the switch to Ovangkol. Or at least that's my theory. I've found conflicting info online though that makes me wonder.

Any thoughts?

Same as mine. Wenge neck/fingerboard and Ovangkol (I think) body.

Well I can tell you one thing for sure: the neck and fretboard are BOTH wenge! By 99 wenge was being phased out in favor of ovangkol (as a NECK wood) so this is worth noting.

The body looks to be ovangkol (I could be wrong) which would make this sexy beast ovangkol/wenge/wenge

I have a '98 Thumb BO 5 that looks like the same body wood. As RC Collins noted yours looks like an Ovangkol body and Wenge/Wenge neck. It's a great combo and a killer bass. Play it proudly!

I have owned a ton of Warwicks including Thumbs. That one is for sure Wenge for the neck and fret board; I think the body is Bubinga; I had several with Bubinga bodies and they looked very similar to that one.
Beautiful bass either way. I bet the tone kills with that Wenge neck!!!
