Jaco and Wooten would still be who they are even if they played P basses- they'd sound a bit different in the mix, sure, but it's their talent we respect, and that would come out no matter what kind of bass they chose to play.

I'm still gonna go with nope. Guys like that are a package deal, sure there's a massive amount of talent, but their unique tone was what put them on top of the mix and gave their basses singing qualities.

In Wooten's case, slapping on a single pickup passive P is ok, but can be enhanced by the EMG, J bridge pickup, and active electronics. The added punch is what allows stuff to stand out and be heard.

In Jaco's case, that high end singing bridge J allowed his upper register to shine very well. A fretless P bass sounds great, but there isn't the same bite.

Heh, I wouldn't necessarily have gone that far. It's a nice warm sound, but definitely not something I'd want to solo with.

I play a Spector Rebop 5 string, which I got used on eBay with a case for $500. It's made in the Czech republic, and I'm very happy with the bass. If you're considering a Legend, you should think about a Rebop...it's not much more expensive if you find one used, and it'll definitely be higher quality.

First off, all of those are fine basses. But if I had to choose out of the basses you listed, I'd get the Spector Euro4LX. Second would be the NS2000.

In my opinion, the Spector is the best bang for the buck and #1 in its class.

It will be far more versatile than the P bass. Plus it has a P pickup and you can get a P thump out of it if you play with it. As well as a great slap sound, or lead sound, or jazz like sound etc.

I do not even consider Warwicks as I basically see them as Spector copies. Great basses, but I'd rather drink from the source. Don't bash me Warwick folks, just look up the history of Warwick and get back to me.
