Ha! No doubt. Where I live in the mid-west, there are - 3 - "High End" bass "Schools of Thought", & the 4 stores stock one or two of each. American Fender, MM, & Warwick. Even GC here doesn't keep anything but low to mid range, and Fender 4's. I recently had a student of 6 years, that wasn't in need of a teacher any longer and wanted to upgrade to a high end bass from his MIM Jazz. His 2 favorites were the "Warwick Growl", and "MM's Slap/Pop" and asked. I had to get to the kennels and take care of the dogs for the evening, and told him check out Talk Bass, and I'd post in a day or two. IMO, as long as both companies have been producing rockin gear, why the question remains, is beyond me.

Oddly enough, I've felt that "buy me" urge far more often with Warwicks than MM's. May be the acoustic resonance, which always appears to be more pronounced on a 'wick.

I've never done more than mess with any MM at GC for a while, but I've slowly grown to loathe my Warwick Thumb 5. I'm pretty sour on the whole Warwick lineup at this point. I'd say go with the MM just out of spite.

Why? That's odd.... What's souring you on them? Did they key your car or something? Are they calling you funny names?

My StingRay is 9.4 pounds, and plays great. The 3 band active preamp had a great sound.

Well, I prefer the feel of a stingray.

I also prefer the sound of a warwick.

After upgrading my electronics in my Warwick Corvette $$ 4, I have been able to reproduce tons of different sounds of other basses.
P bass, Jazz bass, MM Stingray, Lakland, Rickenbacker.

Upgrade Includes:
Preamp - Audere Pro Z Module 4 band (V, B, HM/LM, T/B) 3P switch (low z, mid z, high z)
Neck pup - Bartolini MM42CBJD3 (quad coil)
Bridge pup - Delano MC 4 HE/M2 (double split coil)

The Bart gets me a fat tone while the Delano gets me more of a edgy tone.
Preamp has a 3 position switch shown on top for lows, passive, and slap tone.

The other switches are a 3 position switch for each humbucker.
(Series/Single Coil Hum-Free Bridge/Parallel)

If I want that MM tone, I set the Z switch to Hi-Z/slap tone, Blend knob to favor the bridge pup, and set the bridge pup to parallel. A little tweaking of the EQ and that funky/rock tone shines!

Wow! That quote has to be ancient since I haven't had that Warwick in years. It had a bad neckdive problem, a baseball bat neck (which I realize some people like; I'm just not one of them), and I never could get the MEC electronics to sound right in a mix, studio or live. I'm still kind of "eh" about them. Other people work them well and make them sound good, I'm just not one of them.
