Warwick..wha.....??!

Not 100% sure, but I believe I've seen the same style bass with an "Alembic" logo on the headstock. Was discussed to some extent here on TB. IIRC, the conclusion was that the scam was intended to fool pawnshop owners since the majority of the bass-playing world realized it was not legit. Goes like this:

Scammer: I'd like a loan on this fine Alembic bass (cost: $25).

Pawnshop Owner: Whoo-boy! (eastern European accent, a la Boris Badenov). Book says its worth $1200...I'll give you $200.

Scammer: *sigh* Okay, I'll take it.

Now that's what I call stickin' it to the man!

Yep. I have seen a similar looking bass with Warwick Buzzard, Status Graphite, and Alembic Elan on the headstock at a couple of pawn shops and music stores that sell a lot of used stuff.

There is a pawn shop in The Colony, Texas that has one marked Alembic Elan and priced at $1295. I tried to tell them that it is not the real thing, but they just acted like I was stupid. It has been there for about 5 years.

So it really works? :hiding:

I suppose there's a chance the seller is a pawnee who got smart and wants t unload this...but doesn't want to do it on his main account.

Either that or a sucker who got taken by a pawnie who may or may not have known what they were selling.

Not my problem though
