My good friend has a 5 string thumb that is just back breaking. However, I love his alien acoustic (best bass in my opinion Warwick ever made)

I saw the ad and I inmediately thought Wooten had become an endorser. The webpage said nothing about it, so I guess that's not the case.

Anyway, as someone stated already, it seems like a custom option order by a customer. If you want a Ying Yang Streamer, yes they will make you a Ying Yang Streamer.
BUUUUUUUT, if I were them, I wouldn't use that specific bass to showcase on my ad.

My Dolphin Pro 1 5 string weighs in at 10lbs even.

Prefer the Fodera for looks.....Fodera is more subtle IMHO....

I always loved the look of the Warwicks, but the necks were never comfortable in my hands. Its too bad because I like some of their custom shop offerings.

This is my current "drool over" bass from them. Something about it is just awesome to me.

Lets go easy on Warwick. I won't make excuses for their history with Spector etc, but remember it wasn't long ago that Fender tried suing every instrument maker in the world for making double cutaway bodies with curves. And we all thought that was a little cuckoo.

And it wasn't long ago that MusicMan, who is quite protective and even litigious about its designs (and some could argue the 3+1 headstock design is an invalid trademark) just released a new line that looks quite a lot like fenders.

And Fodera- wait they make a bass with double cutaways and twin jazz pickups!

My point being there are only so many designs to work with and there is a tradition of paying tribute and homage to great design in the business. You take what you like, add your touch and try to make something that feels better to you. If the public embraces it you have succeeded.

And Warwick does make their own interesting stuff and their stuff that draws heavy inspiration from other makes still has an added touch only Warwick can provide. Ever play a Master Man?. Pure joy. An FNA? Pure joy.

Etc etc FWIW IMHO YMMV and so on.

I've only had the chance to pick one of these up once. It has an interesting feeling. But much like the Thumb, the tone is SO unqiue. Nick Schendzielos used on on Job for a Cowboy's Sun Eater, and it sounds in credible. BTW, do NOT go looking that up unless you like super aggressive music. The dolphin just has that wonderfully complex sound.

I love it,(I own the one in the pics I posted) but it is also has a highly flexible tonality.
I chased this exact one for 15 years.
Truly an excellent instrument.

OP: The Warwick Yin Yang finish looks over the top to me, can't say I like it.

Haters: Yes Warwick have lots of original models and finishes and they all sound and play different. Don't judge if you haven't played them. Whether you like them or not is entirely up to you, the customer. Awesome is the freedom, not?

I do not understand the hatred towards any specific brands in the higher end market, if you don't like it don't play it. Get over yourselves.

The thing is that it isn't like Victor Wooten or Fodera invented the Yin-Yang symbol. It's kinda been around for a while, and I believe it has been incorporated into the inlays of the SSII model for a while. Does anyone complain about regular Jackson or Ibanez guitars being knock offs of Strats, or pretty much every ESP\LTD being a knock off of another body shape?
The paint is cool, and a Thumb is a unique instrument. It doesn't look exactly like Vics bass, and it doesn't look squat like a Spector. Quit yer bitch'n.
