So I was in this band for six months. They'd spent 4 years writing songs but hadn't done a gig yet. ....
I've seen many replies on TalkBass, and whilst I know it's out there, I at least thought I'd be able to foresee being kicked out. You can usually get a vibe for bandmates and how they react.

Yep, I was slow to realise that fact during my junior years. Totally agree. You get the vibe people put out. Doesn't mean it's genuine.
He lives downtown and doesn't drive. The people he works with are all willing to deal with that because he brings something to the table
......It seems very likely that they didn't like your playing in the studio. ….. I have played with guys for months who's timing seemed OK in rehearsal but then were weak in the studio. The facts that you were playing an uncomfortable bass, and that they mixed you way down, and that that they let you go immediately after recording seem to support this theory. we have no way of knowing, and you won't agree, but it does seem likely. To you original question, its probably not the way you want to be let go, but it's possible they didn't want to tell you you weren't cutting it. Sorry
He hasn't heard "And Justice for all", but said he was turned down lower than Newstead???

I did wonder when I spelled Newsted, but figured it would sound ok! Agree with your comment, definitely a learning curve. He knew enough to spell the guy's name right. It's Jason Newsted!
The OP didn't get treated well by that band, but gave a few solid reasons why the fit wasn't there, on both sides. A learning opportunity if taken that way.
Totally agree... not to sound harsh, but is it not time that we put this issue to bed?^^Absolutley this ^^^
ITS all HERE
and, as your post points out, we DO have a way of knowing this, The OP points out all the facts we need in the 1st post.
Sorry OP, it happens.
Personally Id like to hear the recordings, that's the final piece that would seal the deal on my "theory" (not really a theory when its all based on the facts. I think that's called..the truth.)
How is this on 10 pages so far? I 1st solved the mystery within 2 pages , I think, now Im commenting from pg 3..

I've always wanted to be one of those musicians with the luxury of having money enough to own more than one instrument. I would like to experience the certain arrogance that must be inherent in that situation. It may just be me and I realize I’m fortunate to have a variety of guitars and basses but I never even go to a bud’s house to jam one on one with a solitary axe.
There is no good way to get fired.
On the flip side, they've been together 4 years and still haven't played a gig or "perfected their songs"? Getting kicked out was the best gift they could have given you.
Get a job?I've always wanted to be one of those musicians with the luxury of having money enough to own more than one instrument. I would like to experience the certain arrogance that must be inherent in that situation.
