Washington Redskins name

What I find amusing here is that nobody has yet caught on to what I am doing with this thread.
I like many of your posts Dave, but I'd agree with the crowd on this one - If someone starts fiddling with my back-door and it doesn't say Dr. in front of their name, I assume I'm getting buggered.

You weren't supposed to be "doing" anything with a thread - give honest answers or talk some obvious smack/humor. Dead-panning while arguing rhetorically is trolling. There is no reason to argue a position just to see how others will argue against it - if it was research you would have contaminated all the data by inserting yourself into the data being created via the thread. Doesn't sound like you consider yourself part of a group who feels marginalized due to their race - this might have been a good topic for you to grab some popcorn and read what's bugging people who DO feel marginalized.

I don't need a way out.
Just say "my bad" and everyone could move on. You know what they say about digging a hole.

I have no compunctions about insulting someone being intellectually dishonest and willfully obtuse.

The deal-breaker for Redskins for me at least is that that word is generally considered offensive by First Nations people. Someone brought up "Yankee" as being offensive at one time, as language evolves I do not know of any case where someone from the northeast part of the US has been offended by that in the past hundred years or so.

I mentioned that you weren't up to speed on this and you disagreed. Now you're confirming what you protested.

Wouldn't it make more sense, knowing what you don't know, to actually have something to base an opinion on before voicing one? TBH the time spent on all of those posts could've been used actually reading up on the subject, which you say you did after the fact. Free speech works so much better that way. Uninformed stances are largely a waste of time. IMO of course.
:)
Don't blame me for you wasting time. My opinions were based on what I had read and heard previously. There is a difference be ten uninformed and.

Technical problem. Basically I, was saying you comment is rude and insulting. I don't enter into debates without some knowledge. This thread made me aware of things I did not know that changed my mind. If you

I respect your opinion more than most. It would be my bad, but it wasn not intentional. I started with an opposing position based on other reading and hearing I had done that did not take the position that many here do. After some posts, it did become pretty clear I was in the minority and perhaps should review my stance. That is what I did last night and why I delayed an answer. But, a lot of yesterday was likely out of line. My only excuse is since I had already been attacked and called names, I was irritated, and was purposely making statements to make some people mad. Not good, but I did it.

What is even more amazing is the hate and abuse I have received since I said I am convinces I was wrong is surpising. You are not among those, but we do have some members here who cannot discuss an issue without name calling and denegration. So carry on. I hope this is over with.

One other thought. You point about not being part of a marginalized group is incorrect for starters, but that not withstanding, how many of those participating are of that group or any other marginalized group? So, on that I disagree.

I attended a wedding in Alabama a number of years back. It was a nice enough affair, and I was genuinely surprised given my own preconceptions about Alabama. Ones that I'm sure that many a northerner might have about being that far down in the deep south.

At one point in the evening I found myself having a conversation with the step-mother of the groom. And true to form, she was a very kind and charming southern lady. But I couldn't help but be a little taken aback when she disengaged from her conversation when she said to me "You're pretty smart... for a Yankee".

In retrospect I couldn't help but laugh at it. In fact, I still laugh at it and the preconceptions some southerners have about people from the north. But that term really doesn't have any power to demean anyone. The name of the Washington NFL team? I don't know who would be laughing at that.

/End tangent.

I heard a radio commercial a few years ago where an American was talking to a Brit. At the end the Brit calls the American a Yank and the American says, "Hey!" like he was offended. It never occurred to me before hearing that commercial that Yankee or Yank was in any way an insult or a pejorative term.

Really? Which of my comment are you referring to?

I'm thinking Dave has tried to apologize or explain he has made some turnabout in his thinking. I'm moving on.

Nah,

I saw Peter Frampton during the 'Comes Alive' tour and his bandages from Humble Pie had formed a new band called Natural Gas and they opened for him. They were GREAT! Sandwiched between them and Frampton was Gary Wright and his all keyboard band. It was weird.

Ah, to be young. I stood in the front row, no more than 8 feet from Frampton's talk box.:bassist:

Waddya mean this isn't a music related forum?!?:woot:

Your assertion that I was uninformed is incorrect. I don't dicuss what I don't know. My previous opinion was based on contridictory information.
I can't understand the left. Even when you get what you want you are still unhappy and pissed off.
