Yikes. Makes me feel better about the big dent I put in the edge of my bass getting it out of the car!

If you have such an instrument you should always carry it in a flight hard case type, its a violin not a bass, so its still a breeze to carry.
Anyway its always sad to see such an historic instrument beeing damaged of course.

I wonder what kind of case it was; it says he fell down a flight of stair onto it. Seems like even a lot of hard cases could crush under that kind of pressure.

I once watched a bow of mine ride down two flights of concrete stairs literally seconds before going onstage for a symphony gig. Heart attack! Tucking a bow under your strings may SEEM safe, but dude, it isn't! Use a bow case at all times! I've no clue how that bow survived, bit it did so without a scratch.
