Watches ... Yes/No ? (now with poll)

While not only worn during the summer, there's something about the hot temperatures and cool, casual summer attire that just seems to call for this unconventional beauty.

For years, having only seen it head-on in pictures online, I thought it was rather unattractive like many of you likely do now, though the first time I saw one in person I was smitten.

For a watch without a truly integrated bracelet, the bracelet is integrated beautifully.

...one of the best bracelets in the business IMO.

It sits on my wrist now as I type this. Any other Monster fans here?

I regularly wear a watch. I believe a watch is the only acceptable form of jewelry a man should wear - besides a wedding ring (ha!). Multiple rings on men - weird. Piercings - weird. Necklaces - weird.

I feel Keith Richards may disagree.
I actually only wear a watch (stopped wearing my wedding ring when I nearly tore my finger off at work) but no piercings, bracelets or necklaces. I must not be artistic enough.

While only you can make the call if a watch is too big for your liking, I will say that out of all my watches, my Monster wears the smallest in relation to its size due to the small crystal/dial (30mm) and the way the bezel (while wide) naturally transitions through the case and shroud, and into the bracelet.

I too have rather small wrists, and as a point of reference, IMO Monsters wear noticeably smaller than an SKX007 with their bigger dial.

Nothing inherently dodgy about that! ...well, maybe aside from its timekeeping. Just a well engineered tool watch. FWIW there's a lot to like about Russian watches. I actually have one myself - a chronograph with a 3133 movement that I picked out after winning a Russia2All design contest many years ago!

Mine is cheap and cheerful... around £60 plus shipping from Moscow if memory serves. Aside from the speedy timing it does pretty well.

I'm 60. I've been wearing a watch since I was a wee lad around 8 years old. Casio has been my choice of digital watches since the 80's. I'm currently wearing a Fitbit style (not a Fitbit) fitness tracker watch.

So... I personally adjust all of my watches to my body. Typically, that means that they lose around one second during the day while on the wrist, or when left crown up, and that gain around one second back when left dial-up overnight.

I dialed in my Monster over the course of a few weeks back in 2014 immediately after picking it up (it's a second gen, so it has the 4r36 movement) and it's stayed dialed in to the spec I noted above since. When constantly worn, I pretty much only need to unscrew the crown to change the date for months that have less than 31 days!

I love to wear watches, but do not do it on a daily basis. I work in IT, and watches can be uncomfortable when you're at a computer all day, but any time I go somewhere outside of work, I will wear one. For me, it's half for the utility, and half for the style of having a watch on. I'm picky too. 40mm max diameter on any watch. Any larger is too big, IMO (Sorry Seiko Monster ). Perfect size is 36-38mm, and I prefer automatics, just because I'm fascinated by them. That being said, here's my favorite, an Orient President!

Bonus points for anyone who can identify the song on my sheet music, solely by the bassline.

I'm one of those people who can't wear a watch because they slow down or stop after a week or two. I've tried cheap, expensive, 100% clockwork, quartz, automatic, pocket watches etc.
I'd love to have a watch. Just can't make it work.

Similarly, my sister goes through appliances, and hifi equipment at an alarming rate. She's probably had every type of vacuum cleaner made. Washing machines too.

Lots of good movements out there that can handle lots of abuse. Maybe we can find one for you? If you’re ok with a digital, my humble recommendation for one of the most robust watches on the planet that won’t break the bank is the Casio dw5600e.

This song came up in my mind after a chat with an Englishman this morning.
He said 'good things come to those who wait'. I said there's a Dutch saying that states the opposite 'For those who wait everything is always too late'.
Which is repeated in the end of 4 verses through this song in Dutch. The song starts with the ticking of the clock that symbolizes the waiting. Visualised with the running watches and clocks.
The rest of the song more or less suggests that one shouldn't wait too long when desire comes into play. But should always act from the heart.

A bit OT I know but thought that I'd share this story that I heard a few days ago.

The father of someone that I know used to be responsible for sounding the hooter for the start and end of shifts at a coal mine so had a pocket watch as part of the job (not sure of the year but could check if anyone is interested).

To make sure that it was always as accurate as it could be he would set it every morning by a clock that was in the window of the local jewellers shop as he walked to work.

One day he had to go into the shop and while in there complemented the owner on the fact that the clock in the window was very accurate and asked where he got the correct time from. The shop owner replied that he set it everyday by the coal mine 12 o'clock hooter!
