major issues i had with the movie cont :
laurie was the one who wanted rorshach gone, not doc. doc was much to detached to care one way or another. this set up laurie as the squonky knob that she came across as in the book.
laurie and dan do not see big figure in the restroom in prison in the book, so they don't understand why rorshach would decide to go to the can in the middle of a jail break. was a humorous scene that was totally lost with the heavy handed treatment.
why include hollis mason at all if you're not going to show him being murdered? waste of time that could have been spent elsewhere more productively.
why show how the comedian gets his butt kicked in such detail? that was time that could also have been spent elsewhere.
rorshach didn't dress down the psych guy in prison - it was almost like he was begging to get his story told and understood. rorshach was not so weak - that part of the book should have followed the script.
sex scene - over a minute long. was one extended panel in the graphic novel. should have been less than 10 secs. and besides, they show her butt 1/4 as long as they showed his. whassupwidat?
the entire "doc manhattan did it" element was awful. doc would definitely have squished veidt like a bug if he did that. he had no loyalty to him, nor did he have any real interest one way or another how things worked out.
veidt himself was all wrong. he would never have felt inspired to threaten executives that came to him - that would drop him to their level. he was above them. he'd look at them as if he were watching a couple of chihuahuas barking.
they corrupted the charactes and their motivations - all of them. every character was an absolute, an archtype, of a certain set of personality traits. that was the point - it was a morality play, and they diluted it and weakened it. they ought to be ashamed.
i'm telling you, it's like the real doll version of the book - all the eye candy but the guts are all wrong, and the soul's gone. for most folks, all the eye candy would be sufficient, but the point of the story wasn't the eye candy, it's the story about these characters.
the brightest spot in the movie for me was haley's take on rorshach. he did a great job, i think, considering the material.
, and it did not seem like (almost) 3 hours in the cinema!
