Way Huge Russian Pickle

I took it but ended up using the Swollen Pickle because we did a line check and I didn't really have time to mess with things. The band is kind of slow and sludgy w/ 1 guitar so I'm thinking the SP might actually be the better choice, it kind of blurs the line between guitar and bass and makes everything sound huge. I use a Darkglass M900, usually the VMT is active with this band. The RP might work better with the B3k setting.

I actually used the RP on guitar & bass on some recordings though, it sounds great in a mix. I used an SG into the RP into a 5150 emulation plugin set crunchy.

What kind of band are you using it with on Thurs?
In Catapult I used to use the Swollen Pickle for a couple parts where it needed to get extra heavy. Usually had the "sustain" knob way down and the volume pretty high. Tended to dominate the mix a bit. It'll be on the last song of the new album, though, so you can hear it in action when it comes out.

Only stopped using it because my current fuzz does the jobs of both the fuzz pedals I used to use.

And what fuzz is that??

So I just had practice. I'll say this much, it's a keeper for me. It really rips. And i can crank it and not worry about feedback. That's a big plus for me. It sat in the mix and it cut in the mix. You can go either way. The low end is super solid. Made my head vibrate haha. I'm still dialing it on but I almost got there in one session. You can hear the mid precense shift as you turn the tone knob and there is actually more to this pedals voice when you get those dist and tone knobs up around 2 o'clock and past. Really interactive in loud settings. I even busted my swollen pickle back out tonight. I'm pretty happy with it overall so far. We shall see what the further brings but I'm holding on to the RP for a while yet. Great stuff.

Oh, and as far as stacking goes. I stacked it with the following tonight

Fifth gear
Pork loin
Carcosa
Rat tail

The fifth gear almost took away note definition. But that is most likey because of all my preamps. I was almost assuredly overloading the signal.

The pork loin stacked very nice with it. Really added even more bottom and brightness. This would most likely be the main stacker I'd use with it.

The carcosa, the way I run at lower gain beast machine, was sorta like the pork loin. A little more boom added though. The jury is still out on that one.

The rat tail did pretty good but again, it got too woofy with my setup. I could see it working if I mess with my settings more.

Overall I felt it stacked rather well with a lot of things. It's just the question in my setup if it's too much. All alone the RP did very well. I'm still deciding where I want it too though. I haven't settled on settings yet. It works really well with octave too. More to come...

Got my RP today. The SP may never leave its box again. It fixes the SP boomy unless you tweak a bunch problem but has plenty of low end all the way across the tone knob. It's going to be hard to find a tone to settle on because it sounds good pretty much anyway you set it.
I guess I never found the SP too boomy. I usually had the filter around 1:00-2:00 though, and the mids all the way up. And the sustain at hardly anything.

I was also only using it for a bit of extra heavy during the last riff or two of songs. Never as an always-on.

I'm finding myself a bit torn now. Guitarist buddy just gave me his Angry Troll to use for a while and if I decide to keep it he'll let it go for $60. On the other hand, I am intrigued by the RP but the standard price I see for it is $160 and I'm (at least telling myself) fighting the GAS at this point in time. Ugh... talk me into or out of the RP please (considering I could save $100 by going with the Angry Troll).

Well, for one, you've come to the wrong place to get talked out of GAS, sorry man!! ;)

The other thing, what are you after? The Angry Troll is a boost to OD to dist. The RP is a muff fuzz. Up to you which one you're after. I want to try that Troll, always looked cool to me.

But what do you want? A boost/OD or a fuzz? If it's fuzz, get the RP. If it's an OD, get the Troll. The RP can do a lower gain dist too, but it's really a fuzz pedal.

LOL, truer words were never spoken!

But yeah, you're right about the what I'm after part. Based on the demos I've heard here the RP is more in line with what I want. I've only played with the Angry Troll a short bit (he just bummed it to me this past Sunday eve at his Superbowl gathering) but I'm thinking the OD would be passable for me even if not ideal.

Yeah it seems most of Way Huges pedals are univeersally good with bass and guitar. I've heard a bass demo of the Troll and I thought it sounded awesome. I'd think of getting one if I wasn't so happy with the Pork Loin. But yeah, the RP is pretty sweet. Does what it supposed to. It is pretty musical but nothing out of this world, like it's not breaking any new ground pre say except that the low end stays solid all the way up the tone knob to dimed.
