And you can take another bass with you back (I mean, don't expect the customs people to be able to distinguish between all those different basses right ... although it is possible that someone plays the bass too there, but he or she will inderstand then ... I hope).

Just to add my toss into the circle, come even further down the globe to New Zealand and you will never see a Stingray for under $4,000 ($3,000USD circa.) retail.

Or a Fender American Standard P/J at no less than $2,500 (dependant on colour, some have been slashed down afew hundred to push sales on less popular colours) Thats close to $1,900USD

Gibby Les Paul standard bass? God, despite never wanting one, the price on one of these suckers is $4,600 ($3,454USD circa.)

As mentioned before, thunderbirds (Gibson) start at $4,000

Best part of the whole deal? Our country doesn't have import taxes on guitars.

Don't even get me started on amps.

Well, I've played a few (Sandberg basses) and no only are they cheaper in the UK than Musicman basses are, I feel they are better in every aspect. And the Sandberg Ken Taylor model, which you can get in the UK for £999, nails the H/H Musicman tone and then some!

You'll have to forgive my nieve american ways, but are there no really good bass manufacturers in Europe? I know there are a couple. Very botique things, but still the same? I know that Washburn has a completely different line in Europe than in the US, which sucks because some of the basses that I have seen were much better looking than what they offer here. This is only one line, I can't imagine how many there must be.

there are some wonderfull builders out here! in the netherlands alone there are atleast 4 "big"/"well known" builders, germany and poland also have great builders(probably the rest of europe to, but ofcourse I don't know them all) but this is more about the big brands I think... but like I (and some others) said... we don't need to convert to dollars, the euro is way to strong right now, or the dollar to weak... soi of course you're gonna see major price differences, but if you convert your salary to dollars to, it's not so spectacular anymore...

Fender USA jazz costs around 1200 euro's here, that's around 1850 dollars, that's about 1.5 x as much... seems a lot, but if I multiply my salary with 1.5... well you get my drift...

In Canada it seems to be that price too. 2000 for a stingray and around 2000 for a Fender.
I thought that Canada changed the price since our money is the same value as US dollar. well it is lame.

As a newbie, start on a Squier, SX or an OLP. Buy used possibly from ebay. I try and never buy new, let someone else pay for the depriciation, just like a car....
