WBO 2022 - Luna's Last Opus

The resemblance is rather astonishing. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he really was...
I've been fighting with Fusion360 to get all the details worked out. Unfortunately you can longer export PDFs from the free version of the program 
so ill have to figure out some way to print this design. here's the latest iteration.
I also wanted to see what the woods will look like on this shape to be sure I was headed in the right direction. The actual bass will have more contours to it of course. Somewhere in between what Ibanez does on their SR basses and Warwick's body contours is what I think I'll aim for
the previous f-hole design didn't look right with this body shape. I may skip having one at all unless inspiration strikes soon. I gotta start cutting wood sooner or later....

I think you will be really happy with the nova hardware I bought a seven string set and abm string anchors for a similar future 7 string headless multiscale build and I'm really impressed with them

The trick to printing PDFs in the free version of Fusion 360 is to have a PDF printer installed, such as Cute PDF, etc. Then from your drawing view, you just choose that as the printer and it will pop up and ask for a path to save the file on your computer.

I appreciate that. I'm going to use that original design eventually for a 30" scale bass VI. Actually it originally had a pickguard
I had envisioned it as an alternate universe Fender bass VI. My idea of what might have happened if the guitar had developed differently.

The purple layer will be maple, dyed purple. I decided against putting any dyes or tints on this top. But I still wanted to include a splash of color somewhere in this build.

I love it but then again I'm biased as purple is my favorite color and I'm planning on doing a burl top with see thru purple on my build.
a hybrid top? that'll be awesome. I first discovered them via Barlow Guitars, who seem to have the best hookup for unique woods of any luthiers I've yet to come across

the light in the rendering engine was doing some weird stuff (might be my 10 year old computer) but I'm still happy with how it looks.
Controls will be simpler than what I planned initially. I've decided on a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits to go under the pickup cover/ramp, with Vol/Vol/Tone control layout. The larger of the 3 knobs will be for tone. I'll most likely make these out of ebony.
Its gonna take some brainstorming but I want to have them mounted flush with the body. The holes they sit in will have a beveled edge. To make the knobs easy to manipulate, their top edges will have some notches/dimples in them.
I was inspired by a build from CG Lutherie for the flush knobs

It looks like some of the bridges are sticking out behind the body. Are they? Or is it just the angle?one last rendering
So after getting my scale drawing printed out, I realized I messed up the neck dimensions somehow, specifically the width. Its too wide, at least compared to my Warwick 5 string. So yet another design tweak is in order.
The main problem with the fact that I haven't started cutting wood yet is that I keep changing my mind on things.
Lately, it's been the string count and the body wood.
I miss having a 6 string, and since there have been some hiccups in sourcing the gold headless tuners, I now have the opportunity to just order a set of 6. The black ones are readily available and I need the hardware in hand so I can size things up properly.
As for the body wood, I love this piece of padauk I have but after piling up all my wood I've collected together, the reddish-orange hue seems out of place. So one last (hopefully!) trip to the lumber yard is in order.

Those flush knobs look great, shame they couldn't have cut them from the actual top though so that the grain would've lined up when they were all turned up.

Thank you. CAD isn't too hard as long as you can visualize things well in 3d space. I learned to do it at the local community college. One semester there and some extra time spent at YouTube University taught me enough to do this rendering.
I find Autodesk Fusion 360 to be pretty accessible, though admittedly I've never tried other CAD programs.
So unfortunately my fretboard isn't quite wide enough for a 6 string. Of course i came to this realization after requesting a 6 string set Oh well, 5 will be plenty. At least the cost difference between the 2 sets was minimal, and I'll have an extra bridge should the need ever arise.
I came up with a design for the headpiece that also incorporates a string retainer.
